Suspension Question (FD3S)
Suspension Question (FD3S)
I'm don't have the best knowledge when it comes to suspension, so I wanted to ask the community what they think. I have a '94 touring and something with the suspension just doesn't quite feel right. If I'm going down the road at 60mph and turn the wheel just a tiny bit it almost feels like it's going to go sideways on me. Obviously the faster I go the more amplified it is. It almost feels like I'm oversteering even though I'm barely turning the wheel. The suspension is bone stock 53k miles and quiet as a church mouse. Any thoughts? One other thing I noticed and didn't find much information about searching the forums is that the drivers side of my car has a slight lean to it. I don't know if it's possibly related or not. Any input would be great. Thanks.
Take your car in for an alignment to see if your rear toe settings are off. The alignment tech should be able to spot any worn components if there's any or it can be as easy as getting the car aligned. It's difficult to diagnose these things through a forum but an alignment is a good place to start.
another good test is to jack up the car and place on jack stands. test all wheels by seeing if there is any movement up and down, or left and right by grabbing the wheels and moving them back and forth with some good effort. if there is any movement you most likely need to swap out to new bushings somewhere.
Yep, find a good alignment shop that is accustomed to doing cars for autox or racing. They should be able to find an issue. Sounds like alignment is off. Also sounds like an upper shock mount might be worn out causing the alignment to be off. Rear Toe links might be also.

1. go to local autocross event
2. ask 10 different drivers where they go for alignments
3. ???
4. 8/10 drivers go to the same shop for adjustments.
good luck OP
I'm no expert in fd suspension but if you're a diy type, jack it up and look for worn parts. Move your wheel up, down and side to side by hand. Change out worn parts and then take it to get aligned. Cause if you take it to a shop and find worn parts you'll end up paying them to do something you can do yourself.
I live in an area where there are no such things as autocross events. I'd have to go probably 2 hours away for that. The general consensus is saying to have the alignment checked, so I'll do that. I have a tire that's slightly out of balance anyway so I'll probably just get both done at the same time. I doubt I have anything wrong with the the suspension because there is no noise what so ever coming from it, even on the roughest roads. This last winter has turned a lot of our roads into what I like to describe a step above rubble.
