suspension installed - initial reactions.
Finally got all my suspension pieces installed. IMHO, too much engine power is useless if all you can do is go in a straight line and thus the proper suspension setup takes precedence over additional engine power output.
Over the weekend I installed:
HKS Hiper Damper Coilovers
M2 toe links
and M2 trailing arms
Already had Cusco F+R strut tower bars and stock R1 swaybars.
I'll be paying a visit to a local alignment shop this week to get my alignment up to spec and I haven't adjusted any of the settings on my coilovers ( set to 15 out of 35 adjustments in front and 15/30 in rear ). But here are my initial reactions after driving the car hard through some twisties yesterday compared to a stock R1 suspension -
- I no longer get any clunking in the rear.
- The ride is very stiff.
- there is virtually no bodyroll at speed through even the tightest corners.
- body flex is more apparent.
- body flex is more apparent.
- body flex is more apparent.
- body flex is more apparent (for emphasis).
- my tires are shitty and that fact is even more apparent than ever.
- the car is significantly more nimble. point the wheel where you want it to go and it will go there.
- threshold braking feels improved.
- kicking the tail out is a lot more predictable and straightening the car out is effortless compared to before.
- the car is completely neutral. stock was also neutral feeling, but there was a slight emphasis to the front.
Overall the best upgrade I've done to the car. Hopefully after I get everything dialed in to spec, it will only get better. My desire for new wheels/tires along with a 6 pt. roll cage just increased 10 fold.

haha. let me know if you need help installing any of that stuff. You're in Pleasanton right? That's pretty close to where I live and about 10 minutes from where I work. Those universal pushing joints are a pain in the ***. i'm still sore from installing everything without an airgun.

That's really kinda funny! I had just ordered the EXACT same setup yesterday (HKS Hiper Damper, M2 Toe Links and Trailing Arms), and I just now found this thread. I'm real glad to hear it's working out well! Can't wait to get mine installed...
