Question suspension???

Ok peps here it is. I just got my '93 RX-7 and i was talken on here about how smooth and soft the ride is. Then i got all these replies sayen how rough and tight their FD's are. Sense i have never riden in an FD i didn't know this, so i guess something is wrong with mine. It has the stock 16" rims and Dunlop SP Sport 8000 225/50-16 tires on all corners. Maybe the previous owner changed the springs or adjusted the chamber or toe i guess. Any ideas? Thanx

That might just be a matter of personal differences and expectations. I doubt the previous owner softened your car. I don't think there are any aftermarket items to soften the car. The Touring models tended to feel softer since they weigh a little more and have more sound deadening. The R models also had stiffer shocks than the other models (though they all had the same springs and sway bars for a given year). You might also have worn out shocks or springs, that have the effect of softening the ride.

Rough and smooth are both arbitrary. For you it could be soft, for others it could be stiff as hell. Everyone says my car is stiff as a rock but hey i'm already used to it. Anyways, if your car is an touring or base model, then it is relatively soft, if it is an r1, then the suspension will be stiffer. Like max said, if your car has a lot of miles, that could effect it too. If that is the case, you might want to look into changing the shocks

RX7turboracerX, Hey, what's wrong with a soft ride? Does the car handle well? Do you drive the car as Mazda's engineer's designed the FD to be driven? It really depends on what you use the car for. If you're into track time or autocross, and the car's response to your steering inputs is delayed, or too slow, then you should look into better shocks. If you're just putzing around town, then why care? Enjoy the soft ride!
