Stretched Tires - Am I driving a time bomb?
Hey Guys,
So when my car arrived from Japan it had some beautiful 20” Advan GT rims on it with brand new rubber.
Now stretched tires are not my thing and I know nothing about them. I just know that tires were not designed for this purpose so I am currently researching my options to get the right wheel/tire combo.
So I wanted to know, from those of you with experience driving on stretched rubber, just how extreme and potentially unsafe is the stretch on these:
Front:
Wheel = 20” x 11”
Tire = 255, 30, 20 (Falken Azenis)
Rear:
Wheel = 20” x 12”
Tire = 285, 25, 20 (Falken Azenis)
The primary reason I am asking is to get an idea of if it’s safe for me to run on these until I work out a solution to put proper size rubber on there?
Am I driving a ticking time bomb for a blow out or de-beading?
Thanks in advance for all input,
Tom

The problem with a wider tire is that the offset on those wheels poke out so far, the only way to clear the fender is that stretched tire. If you change the tires you will probably have to change the wheels as well otherwise you may find that you are impacting the fenders when the suspension compresses. Of course you could raise the car up but I doubt you are going for a lot of wheel gap.

on our race car we're running 205's on a 9" wheel.
if we do a little math its about what you have, so i'm going to say its fine

Thanks for your input! I ran your math also, mine are fractionally less stretched than your 205 tire on a 9".

the 205 on a 9" wheel is about the same as the 225 on a 7" wheel. the 205 on a 9" wheel is better than 205 on an 8" wheel
