Step lip vs round lip..Whats the diference?

Im going to be ordering new forged wheels soon, and one of the options is a step lip or a round lip. Can anyone clarify, I tried a search and nothing came up or it was to outdate for any of the pics to work. Thanks again.

Hey there replied to your PM, but thought I could help here too.

So there are two basic kinds of lips:

1. Stepped lip like the one pictured above
2. Reverse lip, or a straight lip with no step. lol.

In lamen's terms: Stepped lip will have a smaller center disk/face, thus typically making it a lighter wheel than the reverse lip. A reverse lip therefore uses a larger face and since the majority of wheel weight is in the disk it weighs more.

Strength and Repairability:

IMO, stepped lip is stronger than a reverse lip. Especially when a stepped lip as a "rim edge" on the outer part of the barrel like the Jline wheel above. You will find most motorsports and race wheels have this beveled edge.

A reverse lip is like these GT-V's, where there is no step and the edge of the lip is simply rolled.

Hope that helped answer your questions.
