squeaky brakes

my brakes squeak under very light braking. i know this means i should get new pads, but want to know how long i can SAFELY drive it under normal conditions. i want to save enough so i can get a few things done at once, instead of multiple trips to the shop, but at the same time i don't want to mess up my brakes. thanks.

Have your brakes just started squeaking or have they done it since you've owned your car? My brakes have squealed at initial application since the day I bought the car. The pads still have life left but the previous owner put on aftermarket pads (don't know whose) that are just noisy. They don't squeak past the initial brake application. Also, usually worn pads are indicated by squealing when you're NOT using your brakes, i.e. in motion but not braking.

i got my FD ago a month ago. they only squeak when i brake lightly. when i brake on the freeway i can't hear the squeaks, but that might just be bc the road noise cancels it out. when not braking they don't squeak.
