Spacers needed? 17x7.5 +45 wheels, 215/45-17 tires, on S5 FC

I want to put 17 x 7.5 wheels with a 45mm offset on my 1990 GXL.
Tirerack recommends 215/45-17 tires.

From nearly 3 hours of searching, the best I can gather is it might work in the back but not in the front, without spacers.

What size spacer should I use then? is 15mm enough? is 20 better?
Do I need them in the front and back for the wheels to line up?

And does that tire size sound correct?

15mm should be more than enough.
