So all I'm doing is getting slightly larger tires, moving from a 215 to a 225. The 215s fit, but it was really close, so I'm thinking about getting 5mm spacers to make up the difference. I see spacers running anywhere from $15 to $240 on ebay. Is there really a reason to get $200 spacers? I mean, it's just a piece of metal, I could probably use big washers(not that I actually would). I see the term hub-centric being thrown around. Is that something I would need?

nope, its just a slab of metal with some holes drilled in it.
i use cheap 1/2" slipons from ebay with no issues

hubcentricity only matters if your wheels are hubcentric (wheels with mag lugnuts for example). dont worry about it.
as far as i know, all aftermarket wheels are lugcentric. some people will blahblah about needing hubgs, but i think its BS. i run fatty slipons with my mustang wheels, and RPF1's, and have never had any problems.

If possible, I would try and get something at a reasonable price from a decent brand. It is just a piece of metal but it does need to be drilled/machined accurately, flat and the same thickness throughout. The cheaper the part, the less they spend on quality assurance and the cheaper the metal used.

Try AutoRND here on the forum and see what he offers and if it fits your price/quality target. His parts are of good quality and he won't steer you wrong.

+1. When I got spacers for my other car we tried some quality (made in Germany) on one side and some cheaper ones on the other side and I can tell you there is a difference. The quality ones were magnesium or something, they were lighter were also machined better and fit the hub of my car better. So my advice is don't go cheap buy a decent brand.

Well, I got ebay brand for now. If they don't work, I'll throw them in my scrap metal box to be converted into something useful later. Extra metal is always good to have around.
