Small up top, Fat in the rear...

Hey guys, just wondering if in a RWD vehicle such as the 7, is it "better" to have fat tires in the rear with thinner ones up front, or same size all around? What are the advantages of the different situations? Thanks for your time!

Big tires in the rear are used to get more traction while accelerating. Having a staggered setup with smaller tires up front and wider in the rear creates some understeer. It gets more noticeable the more the tire sizes differ in size. Throw some 215's up front and 285's out back and you'll definitely feel some understeer while cornering. Despite that, most rwd cars are probably sold with a staggered tire setup from the factory to make them easier to drive. Having the same tire size all around offers a fairly neutral setup, but you'd have to try it yourself and see what you like. It all really depends on what you want to do with the car.

Ok here's the short answer: It depends.

I know that's not what you want so I'll explain. With the proper setup (suspension) you can make the car handle well with larger rears, equal size tires, or probably even larger fronts.

The car is designed with equal sizes, so just putting larger rears on without changing anything will make it understeer more. Putting the same size tires on will make the handling be more balanced and neutral.

Haha, yeah, I love when kids come up askin, "Hey, is that fast?!" I'm like "Nahh, it's MADDSLOW!!!" hence the license plates...

Awesome, thanks for the info guys, I LOVE the steering response on the FD, so looks like I'm keeping similar sizes. Again, thanks for the info!
