simple question

okay, simple question...how wide of tires can you fit on rims that are 16x 7, like the absolute max I can put on it.

On the tire, you could go 245 probably, maybe even 255 depending on brand. But like SDrotary said, 225 is about max you can fit up front without rubbing.

i know the max up front, but my concern is will it fit on the rim itself without problems? (16x 7)? thanks.

It also depends on sidewall height. You can probably install 275/70-16 no problem, but they will be way too tall. It also depends on which tire model you are looking at. Some tires can be mounted on a wider range (or shifted range) of wheel widths than others.

The best answer to your question is on the tire spec sheets available at the TireRack.com site for the particular tires you wish to purchase. They all list a "Rim Width Range" that will let you know the minimum recommended rim width.

I say slap a 225 on the fronts and 245's on the rear. That should be pretty cool.
