Shocks and Springs on FD

Alright guys i got a question. How hard is it to put a set of shocks and springs on a FD, just wondering if i should atempt this on my own? The local shop i go to wanted like a little over $400 just in labor so you see why im considering doing it myself.

Thanks

Even if you haven't ever done it before, it isn't worth $400 unless you just throw around money. Most people charge by the amount of time it takes, which $400 might be somewhat reasonable if one person is doing it. Do it yourself and save the money, you'll need to rent a spring compresor.

With the right tools..which the shop should have...figure 2 hours...so about 160-180..plus alignment ~ another 70-80 maybe... so you should be looking at 250..not 400

spring compressors are 18$ at AutoZone. I did it myself, it was quite easy.

The rears are very easy to do. The fronts are a little more difficult but still well within the capabilities of the average DIY-er. I made a web page about changing the rears, but haven't finished the front yet:

The Factory Workshop Manual has pretty clear instructions for both front and rear. Mazda used quality hardware, as the fasteners came loose more easily than any car I have done suspension work on despite having 95K miles on it, including many miles in the snow in Michigan.

its a joke. if i can do it you can do it. i had the workshop manual, this website
http://www.robrobinette.com/shocks.htm

and some more knowledgable friends to help me out. all they really needed to do was say 'yeah its that easy'. because it was
you do need an alignment afterward though.
