Which Shocks to get

Alright.. Another suspension setup question.

I'll be getting new shocks to go on my 85 GSL-SE here shortly to go with the ground control coil overs. My question is, what shocks should I get. The car will be used mainly for autocross, and occaisionally on the street. SHould I go with the Tokico Illumnia, Tokico Racing (going to have the camber caster plates installed anyway) or go to the full Bilstein or Koni Racing Inserts?

Does anyone have experiance with the differences between these? Thoughts?

I would use a adjustable shock, Tokico Illumina or KYB AGX. Every
Auto X course can be different so it is very nice to be able to adjust for each course. Thats my vote.

My distributor has a special on the Tokiko line this month. If you want the illuminas, good way to go for FC, I could probably get you a good deal.

Mazdatrix is a good company to talk too. They don't reccommend Koni for the FC. Make sure you can explain the vehicles functionality.

Koni's are single adjustable, whereas Illuminas adjust both the rebound and compression, although not independently like the double adjustable Koni's that Tripoint runs on their Protege in Speedvision. At least that's what I've known.

I run illuminas on all my street/track FC's. I run GAB on one of them.

Well, I've pretty much decided to go with the Illuminas.
At lunch I went for a ride in 83 GSL owned by a guy I work who has the Illuminas on it with stock springs and 122k and the things handles beautifully...

Now about that deal, what sort of price could you get me on a set of 4? Can you beat Mazda Comp at 96$ each?

And BTW, 1985 is still FB, not FC.

Thanks, I read over it so quickly that I didn't reaize we were talking about the FB. I can get them for $370.00 + shipping. I need to know where you are located. If you do paypal, I need to add ten bucks, if you do live in CAli I need to add sales tax.

Pretty close to the same price, except you'd be helping out the forum. I have them in stock and can ship them in two days.

We have four sets, so let your buddies know. This special will only last to the end of the month.

See ya, Rishie

Sweet... that's a pretty slick deal.
I need to cover another paycheck before I can get them, so it will be a week or so. (somehow all my money disappeared for christmas presents)

I'll check back in a week or so and probably go for it. Cool?

And I'm in DFW, TX. ZIP 76137

Rishie, can you get GC stuff? My friend wants springs, but I was thinking of selling him my ST springs and getting some GC stuff for my Illuminas.

Yeah, I can but I there is no markup. I can get you 5% off the retail price. They only give 10% back so I'll meet you half way, plus shipping.

Shipping should be cheap as they are very light and small boxed. Probably $10-$15.

Thanks, Rishie

Should be around $369.00 + shipping.

If you want special spring rates or lengths you'll need to let me know in advance, otherwise I think they come with 375, 250 respective. Don't take my word on that, I need to confirm. If you get different springs they charge more.

13B, I appreciate all the advice you give the guys in this section. I just wanted to let you know. Both you and Johnny pretty much help me out with moderating this section. There are others but I notice how active the both of you are on a daily basis. Much appreciated. Get something I can really hook you up on. I'm not sure what, exhaust or something. There's more money in those products for me to help you for helping me.

Did you have to roll the fenders w/ +30 on the 8's up front. A good tire size to use for that is the 225/35/18 made by Nitto, you can still run the staggered tire in the rear too. The 225/35/18 is perfect for the front on that thing.

Rishie,
I'll let you know when I'll bea ready. I should have money by Monday. So I could send it to you after that. What do you think I should get? Right now I have Illuminas on my convertible. The car was understeering a bit, but it's gotten better since I started getting a little more bold with the throttle. I still need to do my rear steer bushings. I'll PM you next week when I'm ready.

The fronts are ok unless I go too fast over a speed bump. I'm running 225/40/18's. I'm not really in need of anything right now, but later on I should need some stuff.

I try to give advice when I can. Hopefully it's always right.

Re: Which Shocks to get

If mainly autocrossing I'd consider the racing Tokicos, especialy if they're adjustable for rebound AND compression!
