Sanding/Polishing Aluminum Wheels

For all you out there who have wet sanded your aluminum wheels I have a quick question.... when you sand how do you do it? Do you sand around the circumference of the wheel or sand in small circles or??? The whole reason I want to sand my wheels is there are scratches around the entire wheel as if someone took sand paper to them already and sanded around and around. I want to get rid of that. Maybe I am not being realistic, I don't know. They are smooth and look good from 3 feet away. You have to really get up close to see anything wrong with them.

Also when polishing do you use one of those mothers drill attachments?

So my question is what is the best way to sand and then polish them as in the technique.
