Review: Toyo T1-R
I just had these tires installed on my M3 and let me tell you these are probebly the best street performance tire I have ever used and I have tried a ton. They stick the road like glue even in this 50 degree weather
Just took her for a spin down Gerogetown pike!
I'm gonna try these on the FD too!
Why doesn't tire rack carry the Toyo brand?

I've heard that the sidewall could be a little more stiff, but if they're anything like my old T1-Ss, then they must be a nice and sticky tire.
Try Online Tires. They have a special going for us Miata guys, and their regular prices aren't bad either.

I've heard the same thing about the sidewalls.
I know from personal experience that the T1S was quite a bit lighter than my S03s.
Not sure why the tire rack doesnt carry toyo, perhaps some kind of distribution exclusion?

www.tiresavings.com has good prices
225/50ZR16 $115.00
245/45ZR16 $122.00
I just got 4 of the 245/45/16s T1rs from them, and I like the tire. Its very grippy.

How are you guys finding the grip as the tires wear? My T1-S's are 265/17 x 9.5 in the back (BBS RGRs), with maybe 1/4 to 3/16th of an inch left before I get to the wear bars, and I can still get wheelspin @ 5K rpm in 3rd (to4s w/bre @ 16 psi). Scared the hell out of me when the back end started drifting into the right lane @ 70 on the freeway....I was wondering if the t1rs are a bit more sticky......but the specs look about the same as the t1s.....

I have an E30 M3...so I don't have that much hp (212 wrhp), but not as sticky as a S03. If you are getting wheel spin w/ these I say either try a Michelin Pilot or a S03.

I don't know about the T1R's, but T1S's seem to run a little narrower too, which could acount for "less grip" at a given size compared to say an S03. When I picked up my wheels/tires, I compared my rear 275/35/18 on 10" wheel T1S to a 275/35/18 S03 that was sitting on another customers 10" Fikse, and the difference was dramatic... the S03 was much squarer-shouldered and looked alot wider. My 255/35/18 front tire on 9" wheel doesn't look as wide as any 255 i've ever seen either.
I, however, have quite a bit of horsepower, and i've only felt light wheelspin on really cold days on 15 psi.

The one thing I really like about the Toyo's is the way the sidewall bead is slightly pronounced past the wheel lip on my RGRs, therefore no curb rash if I accidentally get too close to an edge when parking. It's saved my rims a couple of times. Do the Pilots or S03's have the same feature?
Don't get me wrong, I love the toyos - reasonable cost, good pretictable grip and ok longevity given the purpose of being a high-performance tire. Just wondering if there is even better out there.
ptrhahn - I wonder how much difference the extra half inch in the back makes. I have contemplated running a 10"x18 in the back with the 17's 8.5's up front, ala Corvette, GT40, and other cars in the past running different staggers....also wonder if there is a time when the Pettit flares and 12" tires are the way to go (310's, anyone? ). I figure that will come with a 20b........I do worry about front end push with that much difference in width front to back. I just know that if I had kept my foot in it in 3rd at 5K rpm my back end may have actually swapped if I wasn't careful. Not a good thing when your going 70+mph.

I've got 10's in back, and 9's in front. For my tire sizes, 255 and 275 35/18, I think they're perfect.
I don't know what sort of power you're making, but i'm probably making 360-370@ the wheels on 15 psi... enough to beat a 911TT X50, and there's no way i'm swapping ends in 3rd gear.

Thanks for the dialog, all. Watch out for those new z06 C6's .... tough competition.
