Recent OEM FD wheel trends?

I have searched and read quite a few threads about the notorious cracking of the thirdgen wheels, all versions. I don't think I saw any threads newer than 2008, but perhaps my search terms could have been better.

1) Is there less discussion of creacking now because the ones that were prone to crack have done so, and the rest are lasting well? I found plenty for sale in the last few days, so they are still out there.

As I read here opinion on which has a worse crack history varies a lot. One confusing issue is that folks seem to use the date of purchase to decide which of the wheels they have, instead of actually looking at the things. Please reply and vote here only on what you have seen and know to be true.

2) As time goes by, are the thicker and heavier reinforced ones more preferable as they will better withstand problems caused by oxidation and fatigue?

Conditions and use vary widely, so I know the poll is full of holes.
