Re-assembling 3-piece wheels - sealant?

Hey everyone -

I'm in the process (VERY long process ) of restoring a set of old Racing Beat wheels for my FD. I dismantled the wheels to aid in the refurbishment process - makes polishing the lip way easier .

Anyhow, there's an off white RTV-type sealant between the wheel halves to help seal the wheels up so the tire's air doesn't leak out. I'll likely be using a flexible RTV when reassembly time comes, but wondered if anyone had any recommendations or had done this before.

Thanks!
Dale

Try to call some places that fix wheels, they might help you by telling you what to use. I think they usually use silicon for the sealant.

I would guess a high pressure sealant like Permatex RTV RED.

I used a clear vinyl type sealant (the kind that stays flexable over time)on mine from home depot. Been on my car for over a year and seen speeds in excess of 140MPH. Just bolt the wheels together using the MFR torque specs/sequence and put a nice bead on it, use your finger to clean it up(i wore rubber gloves). Let cure for 24 hours and then mount tires

To backup what BASTARD said. Back when I had a set of RealWheel Pro6 3 piece wheels on my race car they recomended clear silicon sealant when I changed the width from 8" to 10".
