RB Springs + Tokikos = LOTS of Rubbing?

This is my current set up. Problem is Ive been getting insane rubbing trying to corner. I think its gotten worst too. Now if I brake hard it rubs and if there are dips in the road it rubs. Feels like its bottoming out. Is this the shocks or the springs? Im looking into new springs anyways since the drop of the RB is WAY to much without an increase in spring rate.

The springs lower the car so much that now your tires hit the fender lips and/or liners. That's how life is with those springs.

I had the same set up on my FD, and I too experienced the front tire on fender liner rub. Some research (ie... a phone call to Rotary Performance) and I found that I needed to replace the front upper strut mounts when installing aftermarket shocks and lowering springs. I replaced them (I think they were $60 each), and no more rubbing...at all...under any circumstances.

Good luck

well, you need to upgrade your springs. Ive got the same setup with 18" wheels(wide ones too). I experience some bottoming out when going over really bad bumps, but it aint too bad. the RB spring rate is just a little bit better than stock.

I think the rears are perfect, but the fronts need to have a little bit better spring rate. I have seen some people use RB rears with some eibach fronts

Good point. I replaced my upper rear shock mounts a few weeks ago and I was suprised to see how much the spring really wears into the mount. The coil was nearly submerged into the rubber; that's not so on the new ones. After seeing that I plan to do the fronts soon too.

FWIW since replacing the upper rear shock mounts the road ******* now only go "ka-thud, ka-thud, ka-thud". They used to go "ka-Bang!, ka-Bang!, ka-Bang!" The reduction in noise was nice and was the reason I replaced them. I don't notice any other difference.

Stock.

RSR seems to drop a little more than what they are advertised, but not too much lower. From what I've seen of them in pictures installed, they are about the perfect height on the FD.

The RSR Race Springs would be my first choice right now if I were buying new ones.

Then RSR it is!
BTW
anyone know the part number for the front upper strut mounts?
Thanks!

Hopefully, oneflytrini doesn't mind me posting his pic. That's his front with the RSR Race Springs installed. Doesn't get much better than that without coilovers.

I've been looking for a set of springs, but haven't been able to make up my mind. Mahjik or anyone else, could you post any full car pictures with RSR race springs. I am curious how the back end looks. I ran a little search but couldn't find any.

Thanks for posting some pics of my car Mahjik. It made me feel special . With the RS*R springs, I have no rubbing issues, and I "barely" scrape the 99 lip. The gap between the front wheels and the fender is minimal. Its not as low as other springs, but it puts the car at that "ideal" height to my knowledge. The gap between the rear wheels and the fender is about 1 or 2 mm higher than the front. Still the car is pretty low, but not too low. These springs are badass.

hope this pic helps a little too. (thanks damian (dvls-7))

I have RB springs and oem shocks and it rubs like hell. I kept burning up ECU's and couldnt figure out why. Turns out, the tires rubbed through the fender liner (now replaced and still rubs) and then through some wiring. It also doesnt help that I live in Utah and all the roads that we have are uder construction or laden with potholes/speedbumps/dips.

I'll have to see if I can dig up the invoice for the wheels, or check the boxes that are in storage.

I'll let you know

What's the spring rate(s) on those springs? Are they progressive or linear?

I have a set on my SW20 with Tokico Illuminas and they're pretty soft (I've tried 3f/5r, 4f/3r, and now using 4f/4r..I'll be trying 4f/5r). I bought them thinking they were linear but I found out that they weren't. Advertised spring rates were 201lb/in front and 346lb/in rear. Due to the progressive design I found out that they were ~135lb/in - 201lb/in front and 280lb/in - 345lb/in rear.
