Questions about Tokico 5 way adjustables.

I got this tokico 5 way adjustables with my car when i bought it . The shocks are white and i was wondering, what should i set them to. When i bought it it was set to 2 all around. Now i dont' know if 2 and up is for softer ride or if 2 and down is for softer ride. Also i hear some kind of low clunk on the right rear wheel every time i go over the bump and it also comes when i press the break. Is that some kind of problem or are my breaks just worn out? I don't have the instructions about those tokico so can anyone tell me what should i set them to and what does 1-5 mean.

Thanks

With illuminas one is softer and 5 is the stiffest. It's all up to you. The way it works is like this:

If the front is softer than the rear you will induce more bite up front and less in the rear = oversteer

If the front is set stiffer than the rear you will induce less bite up front and more in the rear = understeer.

What you need to figure out is what you want to induce more in your car. Most people who are getting acquainted with their vehicles will want understeer as it's more predictable. however when you become comfortable with high speed cornering you may want a neutral setup or slight oversteer.

Now you can make a naturally understeering vehicle oversteer through various driving techniques as well.

I hope I haven't confused you. Basically it's all up to you and your skills. Rishie

That is kind of confusing. Can you just tell me what should i set them when i'm racing and what when i'm crusing. Bare in mind that the roads are here kind of messed up, so there are a lot of small bumps and holes.

Thanks

I don't have an FD, but I usually set my shocks at 5 for the track. Your road setting depends on your springs. The stiffness of the shock should be proportional to spring rate. With my 350lbF 250lbR springs I run 3 or 4 on the street.

The shocks can wear out prematurely if they are too hard or too soft for the springs. I read this on a good autoXing/racing page, maybe on tirerack.com? Not sure.

To tell you the truth, there is no "Where you are supposed to set them." It really depends on your driving stlye. Why don't you experiment a little and determine for yourself what you like. Nobody here can say that what they like their's set to is what you should have yours set to. Each individual is different.

Analyze how your car handles and make the changes accordingly to increase or decrease the effect. If you can't do that then I'd suggest setting them the same front and rear until you notice these tendencies.
