Question: SA to FB brake upgrade. help!

Hello fellow Rotary Radicals,

I have an old SA, and am swapping in FB rear axle, brakes and suspension. I do not have an FB master cylinder. Is it necessary, or at least, recommended to have the FB master as well? (Thinking bigger front calipers and added rear calipers might be thirstier than the SA master cylinder can provide for)
In my more familiar VW circles, the hot bigger fronts/rear disc conversion always dictated a need for a bigger master cylinder.

If yes, will the FB master bolt on, or does the brake booster need to be taken from the FB? Will the booster bolt on? Pedal linkage?

I tickled the search engine for a good half hour, to no avail.

Thank you very much!

What fb setup are you swapping? gsl or gslse? On my 79 SA, I swapped the gslse brakes, rear end, suspension, and I kept the stock master and booster. I drive my car fairly hard and have had no issues. Most people seem to keep the stock master and booster, but some will only swap the proportioning valve.

You will need to change the rear e-brake cables though.

You will also have to deal with the brake line thread pitch... they are not the same

Hi,
Thanks for the response!
I'm using GSL-SE parts.

So it sounds like my stock master cylinder should have the 'oomph' to do the job, providing I can find the correct fittings.
I changed the cables to the correct ones already, but is the GSL-SE proportioning valve a must? Or would it be wise to put an adjustable unit it?

Thanks again!

I am swapping to 2nd gen rears and fronts. that being said I have heard the 2nd gen rear brakes (cylinder wise) are about the same as the model you are running. I was advised to move to a 2nd gen master cylinder and proportioning valve. This was from someone with much more experience than me.

I have the parts, but I do not have it assembled yet!
