Question on getting wheel faces machined

This has been bouncing around in my head for a while, and half of me thinks its probably the dumbest idea ever, but part of me thinks it would be safe. Anyway, say you have a wheel that has a bit too much offset, and is rubbing on your fenders. Would there be much harm in having a machine shop take a few mm off of the inside face of the wheel (where it bolts to your hub), and basically increasing the offset? Im not talking about a huge amount of material, but maybe 5mm? Just wanted to throw it out there for discussion.

Nope. I've done it before without any problems.

It'll be HIGHLY dependant on the wheel though, as some wheels have lots of extra metal there, others don't. I do believe that some wheels that are offered in different offsets are even just be machined from the same blanks, but yours might not be that way, and it might just be unsafe in your case, there's no way to tell from here.
