Question about FD wheel sizing/offset

I just purcahsed my 1st FD, and was searching through all the numerous threads of offset info, and it seems alot of the info I find was contradicting ( one person saying fitment was fine, another saying it rubbed, etc..). Also there is so much info it was sort of an overload trying to figure it out. The wheels I was looking at are available in a 18x8, and 18x9, both in the 38mm offset. I was wondering if I could run the 18x9s all around, and if so, what would be the best tire size with that? Im thinking that will be close to the fender up front, but have seem FDs running 18x10s up front with huge tires, so I wanted to ask. Thanks alot for any info, and if there is another thread I may have missed that answers my question, feel free to point me in the right direction.

There are DOZENS of threads that could have answered this, starting in the archives, but with the search function acting spotty, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Yes, you could run 18x8 front, 18x9 rears, both at +38 offset. Not ideal, but it will fit. Proper tire sizes would be 225/40 or 235/40 and 255/35 or 265/35.

You can certainly run wider wheels/tires up front, but that requires wheels with proper offsets, and may require stiffer/aftermarket suspension, and rolled fenders.

What wheels are you looking at?

I was looking at the HP Evos.. although I havent found much info on them as far as weight. They will just be a street wheel, so its not "as" important. When I go to the drag strip I run stock wheels, and if I go to a track or auto-X, I have another set of lightweight 17s, but for the street I really like the look of a nice mesh 18, and for the price, I havent found anything that looks better IMO. Would the 18x9s fit up front with the 38mm offset and a 255/35? Youre right about the search function, I havent been able to use it for days I feel like a Noob asking this sort of question.. I know a ton about FCs suspension and wheel fitments, but being that this is my 1st FD, Im not so sure what the limits are.

i have the 18X8 Evo's on my FD wit 235/40r18 on the front and they hit the fender if u hit a dip in the road or go up steep inclines going anything faster than crawling speed. maybe my suspension is the problem since it is stock, but i would rather go with the 225/40r18 since the tire diameter is closer to the stock tire diameter and gives a lil more clearance. also i agree the wheels are one of the better looking types i have seen for the FD, have received many compliments on the wheels.

Thanks for the reply, I will have to see if the wheels is available in a different offset, or start looking for a different wheel if that is the case. I see no point in going to a larger diameter wheel is I cannot also get a greater width.

Good attitude!

I don't know about those HP wheels, I can't find a company website -- and the only vendors I can find are not "Tier One" vendors....

this is their website....http://www.hpdesignwheels.com they list +38 as the only offset for the wheel which i don't know if that will cause problems on the front with a 18X9 wheel. i have decided to go with 18X9 in the rear since i was involved in an accident and 2 wheels have cosmetic scrapes on the outer lip. i wanted to run 285/30r18 on the back, but i think the tire is too wide for a 18X9 rim...........
