Q's about EBC Brake Pads

I have slotted and cross drilled rotors up front with stock calipers. Stock disk and calipers in the rear. Fronts tend to eat pads pretty quick plus I am rather hard on them. I tend to have heavy street use with lots of heat and fad is something that I would like to avoid.

I had stock pads first, those are nice but I had fad and ate through them fast. Still have stock pads on rear.

Then went to Hawk HPs (just up front) and those were great. No fad lots of stoping power. Only down fall way too much dust and I ate through those just as quick if not quicker. They also tend to fad once you reach or are very close to the "wear indicator tabs". Plus the dusk tends to get caked on the rims and it takes alot of scrubing to remove. Sometimes with a crome polisher and an old tooth brush. Lots of fun.

I tend to go through the front pads twice to three times as fast as my rears. A little faster then I would have thought but not a big suprise with my front rotors and more abrasive pads on the front.

Anyways here is EBC's site:
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Automotive.html

I am torn between the new ceramic red stuff and the good old green stuff everybody likes.

Which would you go with or which brand of pads do you like?
Thanks.

Do a search. For the most part people are not happy with the EBC compounds. I personally use Axxis. I think you would be happy with them except that they will wear down pretty fast.

i run EBC pads exclusively and have since i first put them on my car in 99. i run aggressive street and very aggressive track days at a high speed road course.

i have heard some people find EBC greens to be short lived.

i am not one of them. perhaps some have really bad rotors and are just tearing them up.

i like EBC because they don't dust (my car is white). no noise, they stop on a dime and my rotors look like a million dollars. i run green street and red track.

you have drilled/slotted rotors? they do shorten pad life. i run lockheed AP double pistons w indycar slotted rotors front and stock rear.

i love my EBCs.

As for going through fronts twice as fast as rears I find that perfectly normal. I tend to replace pads before the wear indicators though as I find it easier to boil the fluid when the pad gets thinner (makes sense).

I have used all thre EBC compounds, as well as Hawk Blue, black, HP+, and carbotech XP8, and XP9. The EBCs even the Reds lasted about 1.5hours properly bedded on perfect rotors. I have had the same experience on my 97 Supra TT, and my 88RX7 Turbo race car. The Reds would be good for aggressive street, but do not last for me on the track (EBC Took back 3 full sets from me due to documented extremely short life), and will dust very little. The Carbotechs are far superior IMHO, same rotor wear, very little dust(more than greens, but better than any other pad I have tried), and last ~4-6 times as long as the reds. Carbotech has a new street pad that would be worth trying as well. So my vote for street ONLY would be Reds, XP9s for any track or mixed use. Carl

Thanks Guys. And yes I think the slotted/cross drilled rotors eat pads quicker then non slotted/cross drilled. Never had to replace pads this quickly before. Although I am harder (as in speed) on this car then my others. The front I had expected to wear faster then the rears but this was a little shocking. I should also bleed my brakes when I swap pads because I have felt fade a few times as the pads decreased. Which as you said DamonB is to be expected.

Thanks again. I like the hawks and the stopping power just too much dust. I will go back to them if the EBC red or green don't meet my needs. I will try both pads Red first then green.

Thanks, just looking for first hand experiences.
