so i did some late night suspension work the other night..

im running 18x10.5+12 245/40 squared. here's how the rear sits with just a rolled fender. im not super slammed but im going more of a functional setup for the track. the fronts are a different story.

in the front im running into a rubbing issue with i think is the bracket that holds in the headlights.

im at the conclusion of cutting that piece at a 45 degree angle for my clearance. ill post up more photos soon.

We all hit there lol.... If you cut it, i bet you anything that you will end up hitting somewhere else around that area. Thats just what stops it.

Jose speaks the truth we all hit there lol..if u move down to a more narrow 235/35 ud get 3.5-5mm more clearance and probably be be good. (as in a tire brand that is more narrow.)

i was thinking a 255/35.. it'll give me about 5mm clearance.. although of course depends on the tire brand..thinking federals. i have achilles ATR right now..wasn't my choice of tire it just came with the wheels when i bought them

I used to rub right there but I had 18x10+38 with 285/35 Nittos that had a really tall sidewall. Since I went to a smaller sidewall I don't rub there anymore. Now I rub somewhere else LOL, but it sounds like it's only fender liner or something else plastic.

Not trying to be a dick at all.. but if you are going to be tracking the car, why did you go with such overly aggressive wheel fitments? I mean you can fit 245 width tires on factory wheels and have no rubbing issues. I love aggressive fitments and flush wheels, but I just cant wrap my head around the whole sticking out an inch past the body, and then having to camber the wheel and stretch skinny tires on it thing. But, I know everyone has their own taste, and I know not everyone may like mine so I just agree to disagree. But on the other hand, if you want to use the car for track duty, then you may want to rethink your wheel purchases.

I agree with rxmfn7 on that note that why pick those wheels if you're goin to track the car. Are you goin to drift? Drag? AutoX?

My front setup is 18x10+24 with 245/35 and Im not rubbing anymore and my car is decent low. But I only use the car to cruise and show.

Are you saying he CAN'T track the car with those wheels? It might make things a bit more difficult and he will have to cut/remove/adjust some stuff to do it but its possible. More of a PITY, yeah, but doable and he can look the way he wants. Thats like someone trying to make 500hp with a rotary. Yeah, its doable, but why not use a V8 because its easier? Well...because we like rotaries, right? RX7 owners have a habit of doing things the hard way. I understand where youre coming from though. Yeah it would be easier to go with a smaller width, but who wants that? lol

Theres nothing wrong with the width of his wheels, its the offset that is wrong. A common square setup for an FD is a 10" wide wheel all around with offsets in the 45-50mm range. I personally ran these for a while with 285/30r18 all around, no rubbing with only a slight front fender roll. Im just saying, there are plenty of options out there where you can fit a wide and aggressive wheel without it rubbing everywhere.

OK, yeah, I understand. But I guess I just dont want to say that he cant track it with that size/offset. It WOULD be easier with what you suggest but thats not to say its not possible. I'm empathetic towards his wheel choice for the look he wants to achieve but it also has the potential for being able to track it if he wants. If it were a dedicated track car that ONLY saw competition with function as its only purpose then Id 100% agree that its not a ideal choice but I dont believe thats what it is. He likes that style with the option to track if he wanted. I have a little vested in this discussion as I just bought these same wheels in that size and while Id like to take my car to the track, it wont be there the majority of the time I take it out. I like that look but I understand Ill have to take with good with the bad on the fitment.

edit:I see where he says hes geared more towards a functional track car....well, I have to stand corrected on my assumptions then but Ill still stand by him still being able to track it if he wants. But, like you said, not ideal.

thats why you have 2 sets of wheels, one with aggressive tires for track, and one with aggressive fitment for street
