Drilled rotors are a waste of time...
Do a search - we've had big debates on this...

I agree they are a waste of time, but lots of people seem to like wasting their time on them, so...

Dimpled and slotted fronts for FCs at TireRack:

I don't know where to get rears. Brembo does not make drilled & slotted (on the same rotor) discs (at least for the FD, anyway), so perhaps you could contact the people selling them and ask to have some made for your FC.

If you are too lazy to search, the gist of the argument is that drilled rotors in the stock sizes will crack (quickly) when used on the track. However, since most people just want the look and don't take their cars to the track, drilled rotors are fine for their application.

Performance rotors ehh?

If you want performance, you get larger, thicker solid faced rotors, not drilled stock ones. Those are for looks only... I repeat, drilled stock rotors are for looks only.

Like Max, I used solid-faced brake rotors only...I've seen way too many FD track enthusiasts' weekend cut short from cracked drilled/slotted brake rotors...

I'm fixing to change my pad and rotors and an curious, what do you guys run? I'd love to have a bad *** upgraded break kit but its not going to happen, there is NO way I can spend that kind of $ on brakes. I'll have to stick with rotors and pads that can be used with everything else being stock including the wheels if that matters.

So what do you guys run or if you have a bad *** big break kit what did you run prior to that???

Thanks for the advice. I want to start autox/road racing and think I need something better. I still have the stock pads that came on my car when new in 95!!!! My car only has 40K so thats why they have never been changed.

Thanks
STEPHEN

Well right now I have the stock '99 FD Rx7 Type RS brakes all the way around, and they are BAD TO THE BONE! All you need is a quick flick of your toe and the ABS kicks in!

If you have the US spec FD brakes, stay with the stock Mazda rotors. Excellent rotors, and are not prone to warping like the junk Brembo blanks everyone's so crazy about!

Currently I'm using the EBC Green Stuffs. They hardly dust at all, AND the pads bite cold rotors so hard, that ABS kicks in (at least with my Type RS brakes).

The Green Stuffs have been excellent considering their cold stopping power. This would be the same kind of stopping power you'll need at short course autocrosses (30 to 45-second courses). I haven't tested the Green Stuffs on a full-size road course, but will next weekend at Putnam Park, if for at least a few laps for shake down runs...
