Old/New Rims for my 93 CYM

Okay so after about 2 months at Wheel Works I finally got my rims today. I have to say that they turned out WAY above my expectations. When I got them the wheels look just hidious with years of brake dust on the back, faded paint, scratches and a curb check. Okay, so here's the results of waiting 2 months.

Before Wheel Works

After Wheel Works

They'll be on in a couple of days. Turbo's are out and being rebuilt, and I'm having the car aligned before I put on the new rims. Don't want them to be damaged by some moronic kid working at a dealership who's still in highschool.

Just wonder how good the polished lip? Did they clear coated the lip or anodized? I know most Japanese wheel anodized the lip. I am above to refinish my Work wheels and wonder where is Wheel Works.

Wheels Worx is located in Millersville, Maryland. To repair any damage and have them refinished you're probably looking between 400 to 800 dollars, also depends on if you only need 1 wheel or all 4 wheels done. Here's there info, ask to speak to Bruce and mention that C.J. told you to call.

No the lip is not clear coated at all. It's bare aluminum, you cannot clearcoat polished aluminum as it will peal right off.

Of course you can clear coat polished aluminum since I work in the wheel industry. But the clear coat must be prepared and cure correctly with the correct paint. Normal clear coat from a body shop will not work. Since almost most Japanese wheels has polished lip with anodized finish, I just wonder if you have the lip of your wheel anodized. Anodized lip will be more shinely compare to clear coated since clear coating will look cloudy.

Thanks

Not bad, not bad. If you ever want to get them redone you could send them to Wheel Worx. Bruce will definitely take care of them for you. Although I do have to warn you, for what I had done it was expensive. The engraved MazdaSpeed logo was 900 buck for all 4 wheels to be done. Here's what had to be done for the wheels to get to where they are

They had to dissasemble the wheels
Straighten the rims
Clean the rim
Clean the hubs
Media blast the hubs
Media blast all the little bolts around the wheel
Clean hubs and bolts again after media blasting
Send the hubs out with a picture of the logo. The logo had to be hand type in to a CNC machine. They had to send us an example. Me and Bruce called them and told them the correction. Finally the final code was type into the CNC machine. Plus they also had to set up a jig so the logo would be cut to proper depth, length, and angle
Once everything came back, they hubs had to be cleaned again.
Primer the hubs
Put the first stage of paint on the hubs and dry
Put the second stage of paint on the hubs and dry
Finally put the last stage of paint on the hubs and dry
Once all that was done they finally reassembled them and called me to pick them up. For all the work described above it cost me 2,300 and some change. Now some people might call this crazy, I just call it a passion and a hobby. I'll try to get pictures up as soon as possible with the rims on the car.
