Ok I think that this section needs a chart that is easy to look at and contains all the info that would eliminate the posts about "Will this Fit?".

This is the best layout for the chart that I can think of and it just needs to be filled in.

Then It should have a part at the bottom of the chart that says "Higher offset than reccommend will make the wheels stick out from the fenders Lower offset will make them sit more inside the fenders"
or vice versa

I think this would prevent people from wasting forum members times with answering the same pms or posts over and over again.

 

ok well for some reason the chart didnt hold the spaces in it so it just looks bunched up.

basically what I think it should be is like this

wheel diameter
then the list of widths with their proper offsets next to them

then what would happen if the offset was higher or lower than what is specified. ie sticking out

then how much offset change = 1inch
so if someone is putting on a wide body that add 1 inch they can know how much to add/subtract to make it fit the new width.

I dont understand that and thats why I feel we need a chart.

I want something that tells me if I want 10.5 wheels in the back I need 40mm and then what happens if its less like 20?

Will they stick out like crazy?

Im just throwing this out there and I think it would really simplify this subject.

 

Or people could just read about how offsets work (your view is backwards -- higher offset is more under the fender) at www.tirerack.com or a number of other places. And then read the wheel fitment thread in the archives.

Or you could use a reputable wheel vendor and listen to them about what will fit -- with the understanding that if they DON'T fit, they will be taking the wheels back and refunding your entire purchase....

Edit: Besides, the chart won't work, there are too many variables -- what type of suspension, alignment settings, etc.

 

Plus size moves the wheel in away from the center .& in from the fender ...

17" x 7" = + 28 - + 45 ?

17" x 8" changes

17" x 19" changes again

Read through everything but wanted to double check if this will work for my car.

2 Front Wheels: 18"x8" 2 Rear Wheels: 18"x9"
Offset: Front: 38 Rear: 40

It'll work, but buying the proper sized tires is a must. What's your suspension setup? Any springs/shocks/coilovers?

 

i have bilsteins (sp?) and H&R springs

 

You should be fine. For reference, I had 17x8.5 +37 up front with the same suspension setup and I didn't rub.
