Ok, maybe I haven't fully explained why I forgive the total lack of any cooking ability: besides being a doctor soon and doubling our income, she doesn't mind my motorsports addiction (I'm going to Le Mans this year with my buddies), she parties like a rock star, and most importantly - she's hot.

Georgetown is far from "a large metropolitan suburb."

Yup, definitely the type of couple I see when I'm home and go out in the city.

I like to think of it as an "urban suburb", with the houses literally on top of each other, instead of practically on top of each other, like they are in the actual suburbs.

Um, I have no idea what that means.

Back to tires, I took the opportunity to bitch at Toyo today for not making more sizes in 17 & 18 inch rim diameters. If you care, feel free to do the same at http://www.toyo.com/ They are the f*cking spec tire for the Speed GT series, and they only make 3 sizes in 18's??? (and a whopping 5 sizes in 17's)

Ahhh. The classic "She's hot so I gotta do what she says" Explain to her that two people in a loving relationship make sacrifices for eachother. Race tires in the living room with glass over them used as a coffee table should be perfectly acceptable in a good relationship

My gf thought I was nuts until I got her to start competing too. Now she's ready to start buying more race tires for the car and she gets mad when other women beat her

I would guess the drag tire would have a softer sidewall to "Crinkle" somewhat and you'd need a stiff sidewall for cornering.

That's just the thing - I suspect it is just marketing BS, and that they are really the same or nearly identical tires. I base this on many people, including the Toyo retailer I use, telling me that the Toyo RA1 and the Nitto 555R "drag radial" are really the same tire with a different looking tread. It's like Miller coming out with two seperate light beers, saying one "tastes great" and the other is "less filling", when it is really the same exact beer in different colored cans.

I've tried this approach already - took her to a local Mazda autocross once but she wasn't begging to go back. However, now that I just got her one of these she can't wait for the Evolution driving school in the spring:

Having a tire fit on a rim is very different from having a tire work well on a rim. A 255 on a 8" rim will bulge and hurt cornering performance. It probably will fit though...

I had similar concerns, but when Paul says it works, I take his word for it. He knows what I do with my car, is one of the largest retailers of competition tires on the East Coast, and races himself in the Grand Am series. Plus, every tire is different so it is impossible to make a general statement that a 255 won't fit on a 8" rim. That being said, I'm going to have to see for myself.
