New Boots Wanted...

My vert came with 205/60/15 Bridgestone RE71s on the vert BBS wheels.

That was a great setup. But after a few years, I felt that the 15 wheels looked too small.

4 years ago I moved to a 215/45/17 RE71's on silver MODA Sport wheels. I like the look, but the car wanders all over creation and every rut and bump can be felt. The thing I like most about the new rims is that they fill the wheel well and sit almost flush with the side of the car. What I don't like is the wander and the ~28 lbs. per wheel (without tires).

It is time again to buy tires. This is what I am thinking...

I want to go back to a 205 tire because I am hoping it will cure some of the wander. To do this, I may have to step down to a 16 inch tire?

I'd like to keep the flush look, and I like to looks of the ASA AR1 Black (but they only come in 17" and 18" sizes. Does anyone know of a wheel with the same style in a 16" that is light weight?

I found a pic of the AR1 on a Mustang. Anyone have a pic of these on a Vert?

Does anyone know what the width and offset of the original vert bbs wheel is?

Can anyone chop the color of the rims on my vert to look like the ASA Ar1s?

Any help is appreciated.

No annswers?

OK, I purchased the tires I wanted, now for the wheels.

Anyone know anything about Motegi DP-10s?

They are listed as a 42 offset and only 18.5 lbs. Can anyone verify that? Has anyone had trouble with this brand?

OK, for anyone who might be interested? I did some weighing with the bathroom scale and this is what I found.
  • The oem BBS/RE71 tire/wheels weigh 32 lbs for a 205/60/15. I am assuming there is at least a 2 lb. loss of weight due to wear.
  • The Moda Sport/RE71 wheel/tire package currently on the car weighs in at 45 lbs (215/45/17).
  • The new Sumitomo tires (215/45/17) are 21.5 lbs each.
  • The Motegi DP-10 (17x7) wheels I am looking at weigh 18.5 lbs.

With the above information I can calculate that Moda/RE71s on the car now are a whopping 38.23% heavier than the OEM setup. I do not drive this car for performance, but I can still fell all that excess weight and I want to get rid of as much as possible.

Going to the Motegi/Sumitomo package should yield a new weight of 40 lbs. which is only 117.64 lbs over OEM. While this is not perfect, it is more acceptable for a 2" larger wheel and it won't break the bank (I can't imagine putting $2600 worth of wheels/tires on a car that is only worth $1000 more.)

So, I have three questions.
  1. Does 2 lbs. seem a reasonable figure for wear?
  2. Were the RE71s that come new on the Vert engineered to be extremely lightweight?
  3. Does anyone know of a decently styled wheel that comes in a 17x7, is black spoke with chrome ring, weighs less than 18 lbs, and costs under $150? (I don't expect to find one, but might as well ask.)
