Need some suspension suggestions (FC)

Sig shows my car....88 SE. 4-lug model.

My brakes are starting to get pretty worn out, needing replacement. I have wanted to do the 5-lug conversion and get some new wheels, so I figure this coming tax return is going to finance it.

I was thinking about replacing my tired springs and shocks as well (do it all at once). I am pushing 187k miles on them, so they are due.

The problem I am facing is lots of body roll around corners are moderate speeds (20-30 mph). It has gotten increasingly worse over time. I am also tired of bouncing down rough roads, car doesn't settle fast enough before hitting the next bump and starting the motion again.

Bang for buck is the goal. Here's my thoughts thus far...

Racing Beat coilovers - $240
Shocks - ???
5-lug - $150
Wheels - $440 (16", local shop)
Tires - $400 (225/50/16)
Add. parts - $200 (new rotors, pads, etc.)

I would like to keep this around $1500 if possible, but I need a cheap option for shocks to do it. I don't autocross this car at all. I use it for my daily driver year round and fell in love with it originally b/c of the handling, but the tired suspension is starting to show.

The shocks on my car now aren't blown, but I don't know how worn out they are getting. Is it possible to use the shocks with the RB setup to save some cash for now?

Also, would a set of Energy Suspension bushings make a big difference? I have begun looking into them as well.

I'm not sure about everything else, but I'm pretty certain you want to get rid of those old shocks. When you drop your car with the coilovers the shocks will get the crap beat out of them. Also, you have to balance out everything when your talking suspension, so for overall handling change those shocks as well.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing, but thought I would check with some of the other guys to find out definitely.

I love my car and want to only give it the best attention possible. I don't want to do anything that can cause damage or reduced performance.

The 5 lug conversion along with brakes/wheels/tires is first....but I may settle for something else along the line of wheels in order to reduce costs (15" Vert wheels maybe).
