need offset / tire help -FC

Current wheels are 16x7 40mm ET with 205/55/VR16

The new wheels i'm looking at are 16x8 12mm ET with 225/55/vr16 tire

So if i did the math right, i will need 35mm spacers correct? keep in mind i will have fender flares when i put these tires on.

Second choice is keeping the stock wheel & tire size of 16x7, 205/55/vr16 however the new wheels would have 0 offset, which means i would just need a 40mm spacer?

I've never ventured into the tire/wheel fitment area so pardon my idiocy!

Use this:

Also we need to know what size flares your putting on.

I think your doing your math wrong with your offsets. try using this.
http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

example:
a 17x9mm +35 wheel with a 20mm spacer will make it a 17x9 +15 wheel. Because the spacer moves the hub of the wheel closer to the center of the wheel. Center of the wheel being +0.

Awesome thanks for the link, It made this so much easier.

As for the flares they're actually 240z ZG flares, 2-1/4”

had to adjust tire size as they don't make the one i was looking for but everything checks out, its 1.5 inches wider which should be just fine with the flares as i plan to cut out excess metal.
