need help with same all around ties
I want to purchase 18" wheels for my FD. Can someone sugest a good size that possible i can rotate around the car. (not fatter in the back). im guessing 8 1/2" rims, will the offset be the same?
18 x 8.5 will be pretty weird looking. You'll end up with the tall skinny look. SSR had an 18x9.5 wheel with an offset of +50 that fit the FD perfect front and back. If youre going to use 18s, you might as well get a set of wheels thats wider. Have you considered 17s? 17 x 8.5 will look much nicer but some will argue that its too skinny of a wheel to run out back.
What kind of budget do you have for wheels and tires? Keep in mind that you'll spend about $600-$800 dollars on tires alone for 18s.

The stock FD wheel size for 93-95 FD is 16x8. Having said that, you don't want anything less than a 8" wide rim. Now, when increasing wheel size, the overall size of the wheel/tire combo stays relatively the same. So, going 18x8 isn't going to look any skinnier than a 16x8 as its still the same width (and the overall height is similar to not mess up the speedo).
Generally, most people recommend gaining some width when getting new rims. It makes sense, if you are upgrading the rims you make as well gain some more tire. If you are dead set on 18's, looks for 8-9.5" width rims with decent offsets of +43 to +50.

I'm running 17's although I do run the stock rims for track events currently (I'll be moving to 17's there too soon). You just need to think about:
* What's your budget.
* Are going for looks or for comfort
Comfort, the larger the rim you go, the less sidewall you'll have. So, your car will ride rougher on the streets. As for budget, the larger the wheel you go, the more expensive the tires become. IMO, 17's are the sweet spot right now. There is a lot of choices for tires for most given widths in 17's. 18's are becoming much better now that a lot of the luxury cars are coming standard with 18's.

I'm running 17x8.5 up front and 17x9 in the rear. As soon as I get some tires, I'll be running 18x9.5 all around.
I think 17s are a good size and you'll have plenty of tires to chose from. I personally think 18x8.5 is skinny for my taste but I think theres a few guys on the forum running this size on their FDs and are happy with them. Like Mahjik said, the bigger the wheel, the rougher your ride will be and your tires will be more expensive.
Heres a link to a very good deal (IMHO) on some 17s w/ tires.
