Of course I had to do a slight twist to the look ;)

Thats nice looking... did you get them powdercoated?

BATMAN 02-17-03 03:15 PM

yep.......... thanks

maxcooper 02-17-03 03:40 PM

Looks nice. But why do you have T2 calipers?

-Max

BATMAN 02-17-03 03:54 PM

has cooling fins......... and grabs the same.

Good eyes......... ;)

Rx-7Addict 02-17-03 06:03 PM

Are the 3rd gen and T2 brakes similar? I know both stop really well, but wouldnt the 3rd gen brakes be better? What are the similarities/differences etc. I think they look better, but how do they brake comparably?

BATMAN 02-17-03 06:21 PM

Both uses the same pads and are interchangeble on either FD or FC.

Brentis 02-17-03 06:30 PM

those calipers would look sweet in lime green...

BATMAN 02-17-03 06:37 PM

speaking of which........... i have actually done FD rims lime green.........

SleepR1 02-17-03 06:49 PM

The FD calipers are lighter, and really should be used an an FD rather than the FC calipers. I had to use FC calipers once on my FD, and they did not clamp down as hard as the stock FD calipers do. The Type RS calipers clamp down ever better :)

SleepR1 02-17-03 06:50 PM

Did you get the wheels powder coated? I really like the GT1s. Maybe I'll get them instead. They're nice looking in bright silver like ttb's setup :)

Cossie 02-17-03 06:53 PM

slightly off topic

SleepR1 what pads do you like for track use?

BATMAN 02-17-03 07:10 PM

Sleep R1,

I didn't notice a difference in clamping force between the 2 calipers. Just that both can lock up the tires before ABS kicks in.

Yeah, I got them powder coated.

My rims used to look just like ttb's.

Jerk_Racer 02-17-03 07:17 PM

BATMAN - As always your FD is the best looking. Simplicity. I just hope you don't live in too dusty of an area.

BATMAN 02-17-03 07:19 PM

thanks Jerk ;)

I've used both the stock Sumitomo Type RS FD Rx7 pads and Porterfield R4-Es. The R4-Es (E for "endurance" compound) have more brake fade resistance than the Sumitomo Type RS pads do. Both have about the same initial bite. It really depends on how hard I want to drive. If I want to take a few laps just for sheer fun, then the Sumitomo Type RS pads are more than adequate (I don't have to change them--I run them on the street). If I'm going for "kills" (Z06 hunting :) ) then I use the R4-Es. The enduro pads allow me to stay out on the track longer driving at 8 to 9/10ths of the car's potential.

Other pads I've tried on track:

Hawk HP Plus and Black compound, Porterfield R4 and R4-S, Carbotech Panther and Panther Plus, EBC Red Stuffs, stock US spec FD Rx7 Sumitomo pads.

Rank order would be:

Porterfield R4-E, R4 >, Hawk Black, Carbotech Panther/Panther Plus >Sumitomo J-spec FD Type RS, R4-S > HP Plus > EBC Red Stuff > Sumitomo US spec FD

Hawk Black and Carbotech Panther Plus have a high initial bite, and could easily lead to tire flat-spotting if you have your ABS disengaged. The Porterfields and Sumitomo J-spec FD Type RS pads have less initial bite, but are easier to modulate the braking.

Sumitomo J-spec FD Type RS, Porterfield R4-S and Hawk HP Plus are good for light track use but will fade with hard use for extended track sessions.

EBC Red Stuffs are junk. Don't buy them. I melted a set in one day! Definitely not up to what they're advertised as (track-only pads).

I did at Mid Ohio!

Yeah, I got them powder coated. My rims used to look just like ttb's.
 You sand blasted that beautiful bright silver paint off to opt for the black??

BATMAN 02-17-03 07:31 PM

it wasn't paint......... more like powder coat, or something.

I have never encountered a harder finish then the stock SSR GT1. I like to find out what they are made of.

I have RBC green stuff and love them for the street use. They are really easy on the rotors.

BATMAN 02-17-03 08:31 PM

These were the RP01 that I had sold:

That sounds worth the money for the SSR GT1s. It's good to have a high quality, durable finish on a wheel, especially if you live in the Midwest with Indiana Dept of Public Works throwing salt everywhere during these winter months!

I have EBC green stuff and love them for the street use. They are really easy on the rotors.
I also have a set of the EBC Green Stuffs. I stopped using them when I got the Sumitomo J-spec FD Type RS pads. Once I wear out the Sumitomos, I will mount the Green Stuffs on again. I'm looking forward to how the Green Stuffs perform on track.

You don't really have 220,000 miles on your FD do you??

BATMAN 02-18-03 11:13 AM

Sleep R1,

I have used a variety of pads on my car while logging all these miles on my car.

Of all of them, the EBC green stuff is the best all around pads when u want to group these features in a nice package:

- Easy on the rotors
- Minimal brake dust
- Good initial biting power, even when cold
- No brake noise

Let me know how they did on the track.

Also, have u tried the EBC Yellow Stuff?

It is designed solely for track usage.

BATMAN 02-18-03 11:16 AM

I bought my car with 66,000 miles on it. The rest I logged on over a period of almost 6 years.

Mostly Freeway miles.

Not the original engine however.

All I have to say is that if u tune the A/F properly, change the radiator to a KOYO, and put silicon hoses....... the rest of the car is not all that bad in being reliable.

I have many original compoenents on my car.

What is wrong with Zaino? I was almost gonna buy that stuff!..

BATMAN 02-18-03 02:53 PM

I use Zaino too, but the Turtle wax actually has dye/pigment in it ( in this case black) that fills up the minor blemishes that zaino or the other stuff doesn't have to offer. They even include a little black chapstick, kinda like a crayon for the larger rock chips.

The zaino is the shiniest one I have used.

Here is a pic:

http://www.mazda-rx7.wegov2.com/file...//blackrx7.JPG

BTW, the RP01 was bought from Rishie (ARD T2).

I have doen extensive shopping and his price is the best.

Nothing wrong with Zaino - it's a good deal more work than regular wax, and it gets particularly good results with dark colors. Batman's car looked to me like a Zaino finish.

BATMAN 02-18-03 11:41 PM

Well the first 2 pics were Turtle Wax Color Cure. The only wax/polish that has color pigment in them to fill in light blemishes.

Zaino is great on paint to enhance the shine which is the last pic above. Basically, the one that is almost all stock.

ttb 02-19-03 01:28 AM

is it me or does that last pic almost look fake

BATMAN 02-19-03 01:36 AM

It's u.

I have the negative and orignal to prove it.

As a matter of fact it's in Ivan's house. Most of those BIG pics were taken by me.

In case ur wondering......... it was taken with a N90s with a Kodak Ektar 25 ISO.

The first was taken with a Fuji ISO 200 and the second was with a Kodak Royal Gold ISO 100.

Not a POS digital camera.

ttb 02-19-03 03:23 AM

must be the reflection...you know how people over do it in photoshop...

Nope. It's too pricey, and there are pads for track I KNOW WORK :) The EBC Red Stuffs were supposed to be for track; they sucked ass!

Thanks,

If u look closely at the passenger window....... u'll see water streaks from just being washed. Mazda would never have f*cked up like that.

I actually surprised myself. I guess my camera is worth the $thousands I footed for it.

BATMAN 02-19-03 12:00 PM

Black is the best looking color.......... whne it's clean.

It's either all or nothing.
