My FD's suspension is ****, what should i do?

The guy at my local rotary shop agrees...my suspension is terrible, and the bottom of my car scrapes on the smallest bumps at normal driving speeds...and its not too smooth either. Oh ya, and my front tires scrape too, the front right mostly.

Do I need a new set of coilovers all around? I'm not the mechanic, my dad is, so I have no idea what suspension parts wear down and need replacing. Should I keep it stock? Or are there better options for about the same price?

Buy my Apex'i N1 Damper Type PRO coilovers and you're SET!

Seriously though, depending on what you're trying to do with the car you have a lot of options. Do you have lowering springs on the car? I'm just trying to figure out why you're scrapping the ground everywhere you drive.

The car is bone stock, other than a downpipe and exhaust. I'm thinking about lowering it later on when I get new wheels...so i'm kinda leaning towards some aftermarket springs/whatever u need to lower it.

If you dont want to drop the coin on coilovers, my dad has been running Tokicos and Suspension Specialties springs for years and has been very happy with the setup on the street. He got it all from www.rx7.com

Hmm price doesn't seem too bad for those Tokicos - I was expecting 1g+. Anyone happen to know what a stock set goes for?

Stock is going to be similar to the Tokico price. However, the Tokicos are adjustable and the stock shocks are not. IMO, there is no reason to buy stock shocks with the many affordable adjustable shocks available today.

You can do

tokico/Eibach

Koni/H&R

Many setups available at reasonable prices. We're local too and have warehouse install facility in SF.

Hit me up and i'll make it happen for ya.

I'm not too familiar with car mechanics...but somebody mentioned to me that some bushings might be out of place/need replacing. Would this cause a rough ride and scraping in the front?

Worn springs and/or shocks could be causing your problems. Try to come up with factory ride height measurements to see if the springs are sagging. Ive done the coilover thing(on a subaru) and its on the rough side. Most cheaper coilovers are made for smooth roads(tracks) and have significantly less travel than factory style shocks. There was very little suspension movement even with very mild spring rates(330lb front, 280lb rear springs, 2900 lb car).

TX problem with Suspension Specialties springs

Has anyone else had problems with Suspension Specialties springs sagging over time? Mine have been installed for 6.5 years and 40K miles of daily driving only use. I have Tokiko Illumina shocks set at 4 out of 5 stiffness. The front of the car is now so low that the left wheel (stock rims and 245x45R16 tires) especially rubs against the outer fender when turning on anything but perfectly flat surface (this was bad for my newly restored paint and body work!).

It looks like I am going for the slammed look on the front of the car but it has happened so gradually that I didn't realize the springs were the problem until recently.

As far as I can tell, the rear springs are fine--just the front springs seem to have sagged.

I think the best cost-effective answer may be to replace with Ground Control Coilover kit, P/N 5025 for ~USD$525. Any other recommendations?

Another 2 possibilities -

1. It could be sagging b/c of the stock upper shock mounts going bad over time.

2. On my car, I also noticed some rubbing when my shocks were worn out. Have since had them rebuilt and no more rubbing.

I'm running Koni shocks with Ground Control coil overs. Rishie has great service and selection on other coilover kits. Do a search and read howard coleman 's thread on coilovers if you want to do further research on that topic.

+1 for Koni yellow shocks + H&R springs, very good setup IMO without going to coil-overs. Softer then stock ride (if you want) and works really well at the track too if you crank it up.
