Maximum Backspace FD (not spring related)
Ok, I know the max before you need to upgrade your springs but I have been hearing stuff about having to replace other parts of your suspension. So my question is this:
At what point (backspace) do you need to worry about the other pieces of your suspension (other than springs)?
Thanks

It also depends on the wheel diameter. In the rear, the edge of the rim will hit the trailing link if it has too much backspacing. For 18" wheels, 7.5" is near the limit with the stock trailing link (no rubbing, so perhaps you could go a little deeper -- I haven't looked how close it is, just that it hasn't rubbed). For 17" wheels, I understand that it is in the neighborhood of 7.375", but again you might be able to run a little more. The aftermarket trailing links give a little more room, and you can run the rod end that connects the aftermarket traling link to the body a little closer to the center of the car to make even more room.
In the front, I am not sure what hits first besides the spring, but coil-overs with 2.5" or 2.25" springs give more room than the larger diameter stock springs. 7.5" of backspace (I don't think it matters what diameter) works with 2.5" spring coil-overs, but you might be able to run even more.
