Lower Control Arm Bushings
Lower Control Arm Bushings
I am getting ready (waiting on the parts) to replace my struts and sway bars on my 91 convertible and I was thinking about replacing the front lower control arm bushings at the same time.
I was wondering if these need to be pressed out and the new ones pressed in. The FSM shows this being the case, but I was wondering if anybody has ever done this some other way? Can this be done with common tools at home without having a hydraulic press handy?
What other bushings should I be thinking about replacing while I've got everything torn apart?
I am getting KYB AGX struts and Racing Bear sway bars. The bars come with new bushings of course, so I don't have to worry about them.

bush
This is a fig. about front lower arm bush.
The arm is made of alminum, which is easy to bend.
You should use the suitable tools.
As for bushes FC, Almost all the FC motor mount bushes are worn out.

Thanks for the pic.
What I'm wondering though is whether that big bushing that goes into the closed end needs to be pressed out and the new one pressed in with a hydraulic press, or is it loose enough to be worked in there with a little lube and elbow grease.
I definitely don't want to bend it, but I also don't want to run all over the place trying to find somebody to press these in for me.

I just got done as of 1 pm today putting in, front control arm bushing, end link bushing, rear control arm bushings, toe elem's, kyb agx's, kr2d coilovers, camber plates, rear camber adjuster, RB f/r swaybars. The only things I couldn't do my self with my regular tools was the toe elem bushings. Everything else I installed with my little craftsman tool set and a 4 1/2" bench vice.
