Lesson in handling with low pressure/leak

Today I was headed somewhere.
I came upon a left turn light ahead, it was green at about 100 yards, I accelerated to make it, entered the left turn lane. 50' out it turned yellow. I was doing about 30-40. I braked to slow to about 25 and took the turn, I had plenty of room since I was crossing 3 lanes and going into a 2 lane (each side) road. As I hit the Apex, the back end slid-shifted right for about 3-5 feet, I corrected and continued on.

This was weird. It shouldn't have happened with Pole Position S03s, in 245-45/16s on all 4 corners, barely 1000 miles on them. I figured maybe I hit some oil or something. An hour later, I was coming up to my car on the passenger side. Bingo. The passenger rear was low. Really low. I took out my gauge. 8lbs of pressure. Well that explained it.

Nail in the middle of the tread. Fortunately I did get the road hazard policy. I went to the Firestone/Bridgestone place, and they'll replace it with no prorating, I'll just have to pay for the road hazard policy again. I have to wait a week, because they have to ship that size in from California.

That policy will cover your new tire w/ just the nail hole?

It is a Z rated tire, so it is considered non-repairable. So I get a new tire, and I'll buy the road hazard again.

I posted before, I went with Firestone/Bridgestone store for new tires, they went to like 180 each, to get close to Tire Rack's 178 or so. Some of these places are now independent, and have been given the go to pricematch on internet prices. So, I can take care of it locally.

Ahhhh....now, that's a good new. I was a little relucant about that plan cuz I know they can fix the leak...and they always say if they CAN"T fix, they will change. Just a hole, they can fix....so, I didn't think they would change the new tire.

Price match is great, but you'd have to pay da tax still, right? How about shipping from internet store? I once asked discount tire shop about their magazine price, which is a little bit lower. They said i would still have to pay for shipping anyway and in the end it's the same, they claimed.

As FYI on Bridgestones, Costco carries them and quoted me about $175 a tire for 225x45xR17 S03s. I think its actually $8-15 less than that per tire if I mount and balance them myself.

With Costco no need to price haggle either. The bad news for warrenty is if they don't mount the tires (and they'll only mount in certain sizes for some reason) they won't do the warrenty on them even for stuff like a nail hole.
