Large backspacing wheels

Hey,
I'm looking for some 16 by 8.5 to 10 inch wheels with more than 2 inchs of backspacing, anyone know of any?

What are trying to do???

FC stock backspacing is 5".
FD stock backspacing is 6".

If you run something like 2" of backspacing, you're going to get one funky looking car and most likely damage your bearings...

I need to get some more brake rotor clearance in my project car. I'm not running these in your traditional RX7 so I'm not worried about the wear and everything.

You're going to need to be more clear about where you need clearance. Backspacing and rotor clearance are largely unrelated. Backspacing is the distance between the wheel pad hub surface and the plane defined by the inner rim edge.

Tell us what your setup is in terms of rotors and calipers, where you think you will run into clearance problems, and perhaps any wheels you have tried already and where they lacked clearance for your setup. The best I can figure so far is that you have large diameter rotors and you are looking for 16" wheels that won't rub the brake caliper with the spokes or inner diameter of the rim. Is that right?

chiming in from 240 world... brake clearance usually has more to do with spoke design then with offset, like what max said.

I meant to say offset, not backspacing, sorry... I need more than 2 inchs of offset. I'm more anticipating a problem with brake clearance than having one right now, but it would be nice to get rid of some of the scrub radius I've incurred trying to get the knuckles right for my car. I'm planning on running 11.75 inch rotors with Wilwood Billet DynaPros and so far all my measurements have pointed to the calipers sticking about half an inch past the top of hub, even with the half inch spacer I've got. I can't use a bigger brake hat or I'm have the lower ball joint touching the rotor so I'm trying to figure out if I can add a little more clearance wheel-wise. Thanks for the help.

You're still confused.
Adding more offset pushes the wheel more inside.
If anything, it'll make it worse for brake caliper clearance, but it really should not affect brake caliper clearance.

Most of the Japanese rims have a "high disc" option which allows for "big brakes".

I'm going to increase the size of the spacer in between the brake hat and the wheel, but to keep the original suspension specs, I need to increase the offset. I want to keep the centerline of the tire the same, but move the mounting point, that's all. Sorry I'm not good at explaining things...

Nkeehn,

I think your still confused. What you want to find is a wheel with correct PAD HEIGHT to clear the big brake kit. The offset still can be the same. You can order custom wheels from for example CCW and specify both the pad height and offset separately.

if you look at fikse's wheel fitment page...

Fikse wheel fitment diagram
http://www.fikse.com/fitment.html

as you can see...you can have a wheel with the same offset but add more "meat" to measurement #5 (pad height) to clear big brake kits. It is like what you are trying to do with a spacer but the spacer really is for adjusting the offset of the wheels. So you can have for example a 18x9 +50 wheel that the spoke pattern won't clear a big brake kit due to low pad height but at the same time still have a 18x9 +50 wheel with appropriate pad height to clear the brakes. When you order the wheels you just need to specify to the manufactor those measurements so they can make a wheel that will fit your purposes (that is those measurements 1-5 on the fitment sheet

I went thru this same issue when I was purchasing my volks and needed to get "offset B" to clear the 99 spec brakes.

Ok, that answered my question right there... I hadn't found a place which specifics pad height and offset separately which will solve my problem. Until now, I've had to try to find large offset wheels in order to solve it. Thank you. Do you know of any other places which offer wheel pad height adjustment on 16 inch wheels (other than CCW)?

I'm not too sure about FC fitments and what price range you are looking for.

CCW will do a complete custom wheel for you in 16"
http://www.ccwheel.com/old%20site/ra...s-polished.htm

as I think will Fikse and Kinesis but these are big dollar wheels and typically do not come in 16"

Rishie of AutoRnD is a GREAT resource and has access to a wide variety of wheels. He also wrote a section on fitments for the FC. You might want to call him and give him those measurements to see what he has. You might find, like me, that a manufactor has a wheel, though not custom, still fits your brake kit and offset requirements.

here is Rishies website

I was hoping centerline does, but I'm trying to find alternatives anyway. I'm not too versed in wheel design and terminology so it's been kindof hard to track this stuff down. Thanks for your help.

That's the problem...not many rim manufacturers do this.
I know most of the good Japan companies have "hi disc" options.
I *doubt* Centerline does this; they do not cater to car owners who run big brakes.

If you wanna clear big brakes, just run spacers on a low offset wheel.

For wheels in that size- CCW, Real Racing, Kodiak, Circle Racing, and Racing Hart CP035s I think come in that size.

I think the Real Racings are $300/each.
