KAAZ question

I have had a kaaz for 6 months, and the clunking noise while turning is driving me crazy. Does anybody have any info on how to loosen up a kaaz. Thanks

The clunking noise is inherent of aftermarket clutch type LSDs. You don't loosen (or tighten) the clutch plates to reduce noise. You change the clutch plates in order to affect when/how much it will lock up.

If you want a quieter unit, I would recommend the switching back to a stock unit.

I'm running an '86-88 S4 Turbo 2 clutch pack style LSD in my FD rear. Cheap, quiet, and strong. Total bolt in. Much stronger than the stock Torsen setup.

THe KAZZ is a race style LSD.... there are always tradeoffs.

I put in BG synthetic fluid and mine is smooth now. Used to make all kinds of noise.

It's not recomended to put synthetic gear oil with a kaaz diff. The synthetic fluid will coat the friction plates and in time, render your LSD useless. To minimize the chatter, you should add K&W's trans-x posi trac additive on your next oil change. It's just like the GM additive but you can buy it at kragens or auto-zone.

For the people that are interested I got an instruction manual for the KAAZ, and it shows three different ways to set it up. If anybody needs it I can e-mail to you. I have changed mine and its now quiet.

If you break it in properly the chatter should be to a minimum
It gets you dizzy *** hell doing the 8's while break in but it helps alot

Good to hear ya'lls Kaazez are making very horrible abnormal sounding clunks while turning too. I will swap fluid and do the figure 8 break-in.

FIXED! Thanks to Crispeed, the Rx-7 forum and the Kaaz website. I changed the Kaaz fluid just to be sure it has the correct type and amount. I also added 1 small bottle of the recommended GM limited slip additive (right off the shelf at work )
Then I did the full break in procedure as per the website:

http://www.kaazusa.com/techHelp/tech_Help.htm

I did exactly 30 minutes, was dizzy afterwards. The noise has decreased 300% and runs great. Thanks!!!

Yes, correct break in and using good fluid greatly reduces the chatter.
2 Way LSD - Mechanical/Clutch type will always be noisy
