just put on my wheels

Put on some Rpo1,s today,18x9.5 with a 45mm offset front and rear. And they fit good! especially up front.

Some of you guys were giving me a complex about that.

Put on Toyo t1s 255/35 all the way around and will probably go with a wider tire like 265/275 in anticipation of more mods, will put up pics soon, C.

That's why they fit, you put 255/35-18s all around. The 265s would be the widest I'd go...275/35-18s will get you some pulled out fender lip action...but hey, why listen to us...go ahead do what you want...we only ask that you post your results...

I appreciate your advice Sleep, and use a lot of it.

Having said that,it seems I have noticed a lot of 7 owners with wheel/tire setups purchased from the" Big tire " sellers and gotten some really poor results.
Atermarket 17,s with only 8.5 " wide tires on the back! sorry that doesnt even look right let alone work as well as a 9.5 inch setup would IMO.
I could go on but you get the point.

So between a companies that veer on the side of safety with very conservative fitments and guys going in buying with a $ figure in mind ,I can see why this happens so often.
Still ,you got to feel for a guy who got sold a setup that in retrospect could have worked out so mutch better.

It is naive to expect someone else to have the same level of interest as you should have for your own vehichle.

And I guess that precisely the point.
What willl not just work ok,but will take your cars peromance to the next level, so its not enough to know the width of the tire you want but in real time what that manufacturers tire width actually is.
A 265 width on a Nitto 555 for example actually has a wider contact patch than a 265 Toyo T1s !

For the guys reading this, contenplating investing 2 ,3 or 4 thousand dollars ,as I was on a wheel/ tire upgrade , you would be well advised to not just ask the right questions but know why your asking them in the first place.

In my own case it looks like I could actually support another 10 mm ,quite easily across the tire without rubbing the fender or the coilover, having measured it with a 255/35 wheel and tire mounted on the axle as my reference point.

BTW. a lot of the old school rodders use a tool for measuring the backspacing/offsets ect ,to maximise the desired effect and the good results they get ,show that too.

So ultimately to get it right you will need to decide for yourself what,s important to you.Get your advice from the guys who know their stuff on the forum,go to the tire shop and use their measuring equpment if necassary then sit back and enjoy your results. thanks,

C.

sweet carl. Pics Pics pics.

This has been dubbed the "Winslow Fitment". hehe.

18,9.5 +45 offset

So now who gets the 18,9.5 +50 offset in the SSR Competition. I forsee this as a very popular fitment.

I saw the SSR fitment at Laguna yesterday on some 285/30/18 V700's. Looked pretty good. Sidewalls didn't really budge much at all.

However, wanted to ask Sleep what the negative effects of this may be on the street or the track.

TIA, RIshie

SSR 50-mm offset 9.5 x 18

Rishie,

Yes, I could see myself doing this fitment for the track-only with Kumho Ecsta V700s in 265/35-18s or Hoosier R3S03 in 275/35-18. Both sizes are only slightly taller than 25 inches in overall diameter (25.1 for Kumho 265/35-18 Ecsta V700 and 25.3 for 275/35-18 Hoosier R3S03).

Note that I have stock-style 4-inch OD coil springs, so I can't really go much wider than 265 (Kumhos) or 275 Hoosiers (Hoosiers are slightly optimistic in width) on a 9.5-inch rim width, without rubbing problems with the coil spring perches up front.

For my fenderlip's sake I'd go with a conservative tire like Kumho's 265/35-18 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...el=Ecsta+V700. They use a 9.5-inch rim as their spec rim, so 10.7 inches of section width should be more than adequate at all four corners for track use!

IMHO, 285/30-18 tires should be on 10-inch wide rims (Hoosier's minimal width is 10.5, but their measuring rim is 10-inches wide, so go figure?). 10 x 18 CCWs with 50.8-mm offsets will be the way to go with 285/30-18s. Kumho Ecsta V700's specs require 10 to 11 inches of rimwidth http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...el=Ecsta+V700, so again the CCW in 10 x 18 with 50.8-mm offset will be the way to go with the 285/30-18 tire size.

Since the jury's still out on whether 17-inch SSR Comps are even roadworthy, I'd be very cautious with considering 9.5 x 18 SSR Comps for the public roads. You'll have even less tire sidewall with 18-inch tires, meaning less cushioning, and a higher likelihood of bending a rim lip! Of course if you live where the roads ribbon smooth, then you have no worries!
