rear shock/spring problem

Okay ive been installing tein ss dress up springs on the stock tokico S4 shocks. Front was freakin easy, got to the back shocks and thats where my prob is. How do you get the top nut that holds the mounting plate? I can't find anything to hold the center shaft still. Tried using channel locks, vice grips, and finally a oil filet wrench. Now the top plate, that has a flat side in the center, has no flat side inside and the threads on the top of my shock are shiny and flat . oh and the nut is stuck on the end too. I'm going to cut the F'd up shock apart to get my spring off, but when I buy a new shock to mount it on, How do I tighten everything without stripping it all out!!?? Please if anybody has some input that would be sweet. I need to drive my FC for my vehicle inspection pretty soon. Thanks

The damper adjustment on the SuperR is only for the damper. When you turn the **** there is an orifice inside that changes size to allow the damper to recover faster or slower. It does not change ride height - it changes damping. Damping is thing that slows the motion of the spring down to make the suspension respond more smoothly. "Stiff" damper settings result in a car that handles edgier - which can be faster if you know how to drive with it.

Using the GAB SuperR, you have any choice of stock-sized spring, and if you want to raise/lower or corner balance the car you have to rely on the length of the springs to do it.

FWIW, my car has Super R's on stock springs because in Autocross SS class you can change the damper but not the spring. GAB Super Rs have very high damping rates and as a result you'll get a really bumpy ride out of them on the street.

Ride height and damping rate are both adjustable on coil-overs. That's where the nut on top is used as an adjustment. I think that's what you're thinking of.

Yes, most coilover dampers or the Koni/Tokico shocks have the valving adjustment **** at the top. A FAR superior arrangement I'm surprised GAB did not do.

You'd have to have some damned strong fingers to reach in and turn a 1.5" plastic **** that would mechanically lift or lower a 2800 lb. car.
