i think i might have 'THE' tire size for FC

I got some friends that work at an exotic car dealer and they got me a pair of 235/40/R-17's. my wheels are stang 17x8's. iv heard that no more then 225 will fit in the front on an FC, but so far everything has been working out great. Im going to an autoX this sunday and ill let everyone know if i get rubbing. But on the street, iv pushed it to the point of sliding the front and everything has been ok! ill get some pics of the setup on my car later too, because the wheels just look great!
It looks like they stick out about 1/8th of an inch in front, but i think its so close that under hard conering, it might tuck under due to camber loss...

The difference these 17's made over the stock wheels and tires is so crazy. I thought my FC had a lot of body roll, it turns out most of it was in the tires!

Yup, I ran 235-40-17s on a 17x8 TSW off the shelf rim. Works great. That was with coilovers however.

well it matters how you drive and what suspension you have. also offset plays a role in this too.

i ran 225/50 in the front (still do) and while hot lapping i just didn't have rubbing on the coil, the cars fender cut into the tire basically ruining it to the point it was at the cords and the rubber had been 'cut' off. this was with stock suspension. with coilovers you could up the width of the tires because of the removal of the stock springs which are wide, and with a smaller off set, +35, +18, etc. you'll even have more backspacing to put in there. add stiff suspension to the equation and you don't have to worry about rubbing when cornering.

I'm running 17x8 front with a 235/40/17. The offset is a little too high so I get slight rubbing on the springs. It's a +40 offset. With a +35 I don't think it'd be a problem.

i dont know what my offset is with the stang wheel, but the back spacing with the stang wheel was a half inch deeper then my stock wheel. the wheel and tire are so close to the stock suspension right now, you wouldnt want it any closer. If i get coil-overs in the future, i think i could have the mounting area of the wheel milled down to get even more back spacing, 245's or 255's might be possible.

I found on a website that the stang offset is +30mm - +32mm can that be right?

a lot of those eibach and H&R springs seem to be of the same outside diameter as a stock spring, so if you went with a really high offset, you might have problems. I would not go any closer to the spring then i am now!
Remember, you offset changes when you change wheel width. since we dont know your wheel width, i dont think people can help you...

BTW!
i think we should ban 'offsets' and go with backspacing because thats so much easier.

I am currently running 17 x 8 volk GT-C in the front and 9's in the rear. The front is +41 and i run a 235-45-17 and i have no rubbing issues with eibach springs. I have seen 245-40-17 in the front of an fc but not sure of the offset or suspension.

You guys are forgetting that stock style springs are mounted above the tire, and with coilovers, the coils are next to the tire and require a "lower" offset to push the wheels farther out...

You have less space with a coilover... not more...

My volks are 17x8 with a +40mm offset... 225/45's... they do not clear in the front, i run a 8mm spacer all around. 91fct2 can clear a +41 and 235's because he runs stock style springs, not coilovers...

oh okay, didn't take that to notice, but now do. if i was to do it, i'd get +18 and widened fenders either CS full fender, or pan speed over fender.

i had 4 regamaster evo 17x9 +18 that i was gonna run with corksport fenders... they are an awesome fit, you will need to get the panspeeds for the rear as well... they stick out about an inch over stock.
