As long as you haven't gone to the cords, or completely wiped off the tread they should be fine, just keep an eye on them, as that spot will wear out faster. You may feel a vibration now at speeds due to the flat spots (if they're big), that's ok, but if it bothers you you should be able to get them re-balanced to take care of it.

Re-balancing might help reduce the vibrations, but it won't cure it. There's a flat spot on the tire! It won't wear itself away from normal driving, either -- the flat spot will always be there.

I read a post once that some tire shops could shave a tire to reduce/eliminate the flat spot. I have never heard of anyone using such a service, and I doubt it would be a perfect solution, since it would be hard to make something that is soft and not round round again. But it certainly seems like it could help to some extent. If anyone has had a first-hand experience using such a service, I would like to hear about it.

Bottom line: you have to live with the flat spot until you replace the tires.

ABS is wonderful for avoiding flat spots. If your car has ABS and it stopped working, you might consider fixing it to avoid more flat spots in the future. My daily driver has no-longer-working ABS and I flat-spotted my last set of front tires when some idiot cut me off. Of course, I still haven't fixed the ABS.

just peel out for a lil bit every now n then to get it even. however, you'll have less thread. so you would have to decided wether you want some vibration on the car or les thread.

Better advice, learn Threshold Braking if you don't have ABS.

Just one question...how fast were you going to take that much tread off just from locking the brakes? Must be some really soft tires cause I've locked my brakes many times without damaging my tires. My recommendation...get different tires.

Perhaps your frequent lock-ups are the result of your low-grip, hard tires.

Flat spots dont go away. I recomend just continuing to do hard stops and hope that you hit the spots that arent flat until you make a round tire again.
