I am thinking about getting a set of these. They are 18x8 with +38 offset. With 225/40/18 tires do you guys think I will run into fitment problems? I also have Eibachs pro kit springs. I beleive they lower the car 1".

This is what it looks like. It weights 21lbs. Is that bad for a mesh wheel?

that isn't too bad a weight. However, I have seen them in real life and they aren't that impressive. Plus the 225 tire on a 18x8 rim isn't gonna be that great of a setup for handling.

 

They don't look the same as the pic? Why wouldn't the 225 on a 8" rim be good for handling.?

 

With 225/40 18s, you will have less straight-line traction than the stock setup and likely the same lateral grip (maybe a hair more).

Of some importance is the fact that 225/40 18s do not have as high a load rating as the stock tires, which I would not consider safe. When you do plus-sizing, you should go wider to maintain the same load rating.

Also, +38 offset will really be pushing it with those Eibach springs. FWIW, I have caught my passenger side fender lip with my HKS Springs entering a driveway with the steering cranked. This was with the stock wheels (+50 offset). The wheels you are looking at will stick out 1/2" further towards the fender. Also, 21 lbs is pretty heavy for such a skinny wheel.

To bad this is the only wheel I have found that I like, that is in my price range. CHEAP. I can't afford five hundred plus for one stinking wheel.

 

try the ADR m classic. It is pretty much the same wheel, and I think they come in 8.5 wide. Also the konig imagine is the same wheel which can be had for less than $200 a piece.

 

I wonder why Mazda put 18x8 wheels on the RX-8?

The fact is you will lose performance by going with a CHEAP aftermarket wheel. There is no free lunch. A very good cheaper wheel would be the SSR GT-1. A nice looking split-5 spoke that goes for about $280/wheel in 17x9, +45 offset. Run 255/40 17 tires with them.

 

I have been seeing alot of 3rd gens with the ADR M-sport 18x8.5 wheels. I am pretty sure they have a 35mm offsett so maybe I will be OK with the 38mm. I hope so anyway.

 

you won't have problems if you put a really small tire on them (meaning, barely fits the rim and has a miniscule sidewall).

 

I have seen a couple using Eibach springs with a 225/40/18 tire with that wheel size. I don't know if they have rubbing problems though. I have seen these cars for sell on E-bay(probably because of rubbing problems) . I need to ask seller a question and find out if they have any rubbing problems. But even with my stock wheels I have to watch how I turn in to a driveway with a dip or it will rub. You just have to learn not to cut your wheels any sharper than you have to. I need to find a how to on rolling my fenders. Anyone know a good site for this?

 

I wonder how much rougher these cars ride with lower profile wheels, since they already ride like tanks. The Eibach springs help a lot but it is still rough.

 

I got my wheels in yesterday. It ended up being only 959.00 shipped with tires and lugs and key. They look awesome. They don't feel much heavier than my stock wheels with tires, and they seem to fit great but I haven't driven it much yet. I have a question. Why do my 225/40/18 tires look so much narrower than my 225/50/16s? I thought 225 width should be the same but it isn't. Or is it just the difference in tire manufacturers? I will definately be putting a wider tire on the rear next time. What is the Widest tire I could fit on my 8" rims without going much taller? Will a 255/35/18 fit on the 8" rim?

 

Just for the record. I do NOT have any rubbing issues even with the Eibach springs, and my car actually rides smoother ( I am still trying to figure this one out). I am really happy with this setup for daily street driving. And I think they look awesome. Can I get someone to post a pic for me? If someone is willing I can e-mail it to you. Thanks,

To be realistic I know that nobody cares since they didn't cost over 550.00 each without tires.
