Anyone have hints for removing track-hardened brakedust on wheels? This is especially difficult because of the high temp cycles.

If your wheels have no finish, eagle one makes an allow wheel cleaner that cleans it off very well. Its very dirty though and will screw your paint. Its best to take the wheels of to clean them.

 

i use degreaser from a car dealership.... just spray the bejeebus out of the brake dust and spray it off...

 

I cant use the eagle 1- the wheels have a finsish (gunmetal SSR Competition). Any other suggestions?

Soap. Water. A soft-haired brush. A lot of elbow grease.

And if all else fails ... a light polishing compound.

 

Meguiar's Instant Wheel Cleaner. Spray it on, brush with a rim brush and tooth brush and spray off. Just be careful not to let it soak too long.

I used that on the front and rear of the stock rims that were on my car when I bought it. The owner didn't feel like selling me the Volks that were on the car so I had to get a few years of brake dust off the stock wheels. Worked like a charm

 

i use wheel cleaner and some oil/grease cleaner stuff. I would recommend some fine steel wool...but u said ur wheels are finished so id stay away from that. Powerwashers can always lighten the load when removing brake dust.

 

Brake Cleaner if you don't mind removing the finish.

I might be buying another FD with these track wheels- just gathering info.

 

Put some wax on a rag and try rubbing it out, if the dust in a groove, use the wax and a toothbrush. I use McGuires cleaning wax.
