Hey guys, I need help picking suspenion out for my 91 FC
Hey guys, Im still a bit new to Forums and stuff, But id really like to get heavily involved with this rx7club. I have wanted an Rx-7 since i was in 6th grade and im 16 now, ITs taken me a long time to get a hold of one in good shape and in my price range. Buta fter a yaer and a hlf of looking and working hard. I managed to get a 91 mazda rx-7 NA. The motor is new, the body is in great shape, and has no rust or rot underneath.. But besides those things!!!
I need help picking out a good suspension for my car. Can anyone reccoment Brand names? PLaces to look? Any help in areas of picking a good set up for my car? IF you guys could. I would appreciate it greatly
thanks
Sam

Budget? Intended use? Level of acceptance of a rough ride?
Seriously though, drive the car the way it is, get some experiance, go out to some autocrosses and get some experience in the car when stock. The performance deficiency is definetly in the driver, not the car. Doing that will give you more time to research options and will give you a better idea of what you want in the way of a suspension. Throwing parts at the car just for the sake of modifying it isn't a very good way to do it. Have a clear plan and objectives and persue them.
If you're going to get coilovers I'd stay away from the newcomers like Megan, K-Sport and the like. Stick with known good suppliers like Tein.

Thanks, i mean im not doing this for the sake however. The suspension is litteraly worn out from the springs to the struts and bearings, it even grinds when i go over bumps. I figured insince i was going to replace it, id rather replace it with good aftermarket suspension instead of stock. I mean i have owned a Civic, and a Cavelier before this and my father has had me driving before i got my permit and license, and i woud love to go to events to actually drive, but i dont know of any. But thanks for those brands i shouldnt buy from. Any brands i should take a look at?

start off with the simple important stuff- DTSS eliminators for sure, and poly bushings all the way around. Energy suspension sells a full kit. I forgot the other brand.. Tokico makes great drop in shocks, as well as kyb agx. i would personally get tokico blues- theyre super stiff, and relatively cheap.
the stock springs arent too bad, so they dont need to be replaced unless you wanna lower the car, or you run much stickier rubber. thats something you can do later on.
also, you should replace your ball joints and tie rod ends before you go spending money on the more expensive parts.
check out mazdatrix.com and racingbeat.com for susp parts. ebay usually has the shocks. overnightautoparts.com is nice for OEM replacement parts (bearings, ball joints, etc)
and dont forget, tires play a bigger role in cornering grip than anything else.

strike up the paean
the advice in here is good...
figure out what you are doing with the car first. if its just a gentle refresh plus some mild upgrades you don't need to go ***** out with coilovers.
the only additional advice i can offer is to plan it out so you limit your other costs. for instance, it wouldn't make sense to get tie rods, re-align the car; then buy springs and shocks and get another alignment. save up and do as much of it as once if you can hold off on installation and purchase. then put it all in and get it aligned. done.
