help with suspension

hows it going. currently i have a set of hks hypermax coilovers on the car. the other day i took the car out for a drive and i went over a little bump and there was loud bang in the rear passanger side of the car. i bought these coilovers used from a forum member awhile ago, adn this is the first time this happened. question is would it be the pillow ball mount, even though they are hks. (i havent looked at the coilover yet, cause i want to get it on my friends lift.) or could it be a blown shock and time for a rebuild. not sure of mileage i was told 10k on them. alittle oil is leaking out of the others, but nothing too serious. so what im going to try and do is refill the coilover, cause theres a race shop around here that told me he could refill them.

next question is if i swap out the suspension, would i be able to use the coilover springs and hks pillow ball mounts on a set of koni yellows? and does anyone have any pics of this set up>?

thanks in advance

IMO, any of the dampers leaking oil need to be sent into HKS for rebuilding.

I seriously doubt you could use the Konis with the HKS upper mounts. If you could, you would still need threaded sleaves from Ground Control.

brandon,

rynberg is probably right. oil leakage usually means the internal seals in the shock are toast and therefore the shock is "blown". you might be able to re-use the springs or upper mounts, but you'll still need the lower threaded sleeves.

there are a couple of people selling konis right now. why are you interested in the GC coilovers? is it so you can retain the height/clearance you need? if so make sure you get the right spring rates or it's gonna shake your teeth loose. pomanferrari had a good thread on various spring rates he had used with his GC kit.

Good luck.

alright thanks for the help so far.... i just looked at both rear coilovers. there is no leakage from the rear. all bolts are tight and from what i can see all the bushings are still good. when i put the car back on the ground, i pushed down on the rear passanger side and there is a clunking noise when i do it. im thinking the coilovers arent blown, but somehting is clunking. anyone know waht the clunk could be. pillowball?bushings?

for the koni yellows, i didnt want to make a coilover of them, i just wanted to see if i could save money on shocks and upper mounts by using the hks coilovers i had.

doesn't sound like the shocks are bad if you don't see oil leaking out. clunk is probably something else. maybe a pillow ball bushing, maybe the sway bar mount, maybe the exhaust heat shield.

unfortunately, it doesn't look like you'll be saving some money on the upper mounts. you'll either need to replace with another set of coilovers or get your hands on a set of strut mounts and other parts.

well i ordered new pillowball mounts from ray at malloy mazda. today as i took the upper control arm the rear passanger side the coilover fell from the strut tower. the shock shaft stripped and rounded. when i inspected the coilover lastweek i guess i didnt do that good of a job. so i replaced the two upper pillowball mounts, and now i have to either try to buy a new rear coilover or get this one rebuilt. i guess the price will tell if i keep the hks coilovers or just buy a new suspension.
