Help with choosing new lug nuts.

Hey all,

I just got a new set of wheels, and I wanted to grab a new set of lug nuts/ locks as, the old ones are kind of beat up. Does anyone have any suggestions? My local Mazda dealer wants 10.50$ per nut ouch!! I'd like to get something semi trick if at all possible. BTW the wheels are Fiske FM-10s if that matters.

I had Fikse FM/5s and used McGard SplineDrive lug nuts.

EDIT: I bought them @ Goodwin Racing:

You may still be able to get a full set of new OEM lugnuts from the user "perfectrx7" for $15 shipped. He was selling several sets a couple of months ago.

I'm using these:

It's what Rishie sells with his wheels.

Thanks All... Dis1, do you know of any stores in the area that stock those Gorilla lug nuts?

Likewise with the SplineDrive lug nuts. If you look at the picture on the Goodwin Racing website I linked to, it comes with a tool. Also, these lug nuts, unlike most security lug nuts, can be torqued down properly and won't come off.

Although the SplineDrive ones do require a tool (like many others) they are not lock type nuts because the tool can be purchased and used on any nut. The gorilla system has true locking nuts and comes with a unique key.

As for where to buy them locally I don't know. I don't buy anything locally because why should I pay more to go to a store when I can order on-line and have it shipped to my door? I bought mine from summit racing.

I have used pep boys in the past and have had problems with the lug nuts freezing and also rounding off. I'd like to get some that are a little better quality than the ones pep boy stock..

The chances of anyone having the tool is very slim, but I suppose it's still possible. With the Gorilla locks, you can jam a socket onto those and remove them that way. Nothing is foolproof, but it is better than nothing and you do what you can, especially w/ expensive Fikses. BTW, I had a set of Gorilla locks (their "Wheel Lock System") and a problem I had with them is that all the locks got rusty and looked like crap in a short amount of time. One wheel lock that they put out that I'm impressed with is their Gorilla Guard II. It has a rotating outer sleeve and you can't "grab" it to take it off, and the opening where you would put a key is too narrow to jam a socket into. I had one on each wheel along w/ three SplineDrive lug nuts on my turbo Miata. (It's the bottom one in the pic.)

if someone wanted your wheels bad enough they will find a way. It's not too hard to take the whole hub with you if you have a big 3/4 inch breaker bar and the right socket. Dewalt now makes a cordless impact wrench good for around 300 ft/lbs of torque. That will take off most axle nuts

You need to use Anti-Seize on whatever lug nuts you use.

I have Koyugen, I like them as they are seven-sided and need the special tool. And, just because Im a paraniod obsessive compulsive fool, I also have one McGuard on each wheel.

We used Kyokugen before but with the heptagonal design the key would strip quite often or even break. We've since gone to it's sister nut the Muteki. THis is a lightweight spline drive similar to the kyoguen. Comes in same color options.

Let me know I know a shop who stocks both the Black Spline Mutekis and Black Tuner McGard wheel locks so they match up. PM me and i'll see if I can get a hardware package price for ya.
