Hawk HPS Rear Pads too Thick

I'm putting on new Hawk HPS pads and the rear rotor will not turn freely if i use the backing plate on the pad. Do Hawks require the plate on each pad or no?

The piston in the caliper is fully compressed and flush with the caliper housing. There is simply no more room to be had.

Have other experienced the same?

Yeah I ran into the same problem, the pads have a built in plates, so you just don't use them. I don't remember if the rears or fronts actually have 2 plates on each side, so I just used 1 on those.

Rears installed without oem plates and all is well. Fronts took the oem back plates with no issues.

They worked for me. I think you guys are not seating the pads right on the caliper. The piston has grooves in em for the circular tabs on the pad to seat in them.

I couldn't fit the plate in them either but as said the pad comes with a plate on the back already so they aren't needed.

Thread revive. I have the same problem and I'm pissed cause I bought 2 sets all around. I can't get mine in at all, even without the back plates.

I tried compressing the piston but it still sticks out about 1/4 inch. It's flush with the piston dust boot but that's it. Any ideas?

Hawk -HB158F.515. Is the part #

Twist the piston? I didn't know you had to do that. I don't know how to do that with my c clamp on it, but I'll try.

The rear OEM calipers don't press it, they screw in. Unless you have something other than OEM calipers, you should use a caliper tool like this to turn them:

You can find that little cube at any basic automotive store.

That is why one should TOTALLY read the manuals until you know the car.
