Question Gen1 4spot caliper conversion

Can anyone tell me if a 4 spot caliper conversion has been done sucessfully on a gen1 using gen2 4spot caliper?

I have been told its possible, and having done a 4spot Sumitomo conversion on a R31 Skyline, I am pretty confident it can be done.

I have had a S2 for a while now (sitting in the shed after a full respray), and it has a 13BT, but needs a brake upgrade.

What I want to know is if anyone here has done this brake conversion, and what is needed.

Will the calipers bolt to the SII struts without a adapter plate? What rotor size does the gen2 use (and what offset), or what rotors have to be used to match size and offset?

Also what about the brake line, does the banjo bolt fit, or do I have to have one made up/get new lines?

Lastly, how about the master cylinder and proportioning valve, how to modify them to suit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it can be done!! and since you are in austrailia it should be easy to get the parts.

are you familar with AJC13B he did the conversion,
3rd gen calipers on his first gen.

A special mounting bracket was made, and that was it.

From what I know the 3rd and 2nd gen 4 pot calipers have the same holding capacity. The 3rd gen looks better.

I wanted to do this coversion on mine also but I asked the shop where he got this done, and they wouldn't tell me what rotor they used. (for obvious reasons) But they are located in austrailia. They used a stock rotor off another car, I'm thinking a nissan because if has to have the same bolt pattern. 4x114.3mm Once I find out which one I will convert mine.

Hope that helps

Thanks JIMMY54, but the rotor thing will continue to be a problem as I have a series 2 with that odd stud pattern (4x110mm is it?).

Then again I have had rotors redrilled before to suit another application.

The Magna is a 4x114.3mm on the 4 stud models. This is the same as a Series 3 Gen1 (85 model).

I think that it isn;t a very large rotor in diameter or thickness. Perhaps I will research the rotor side a bit more - PRB make some interesting kits.

I will need to find out the hub dimensions and offsets to look at what could possibily fit.

Once I get stuck into it, I'll let you know what the best fit is. However, I'm still researching at the moment so it'll be a while.

Well to start off we need a list of japanese vehicles with our 4x114.3 bolt pattern and they must also be Rear wheel drive in order to have the bearings in the rotor.

Some places say to machine the rotor down to accept a replacable disc. so our factory hubs would act as the hat for a 2 piece brake rotor.

Anyhow keep me posted!

Thanks

we just started our project car it's a first gen w/t2 motor and tranny. So thats why we want to beef up the brakes but my blue n/a has wicked brakes. So you could probably save yourself the work of swaping to second gen brakes.

My brake system includes - brembo x-pattern disc's
- KVR carbon kevlar pads
- Dot 4 high temp fluid

You can lock it up extremely easily since the car is really light.
