FYI: MY EXPERIENCE WITH 17 X 8 +35 and tires on the front of an FC

I installed a set of 17 x 8 +35 wheels on the front of my FC.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the largest tire you can possibly fit on there is a 225/45/17

The tire and wheels are about 3-4mm off of the strut. Basically enough to fit two credit cards between.

I just wanted to end the madness between people saying you can go bigger, because you really cant. Even with a narrower profiled tire it won't matter. The wheel itself is 3-4mm off the strut.

That is all.

do you have stock struts, or coilovers?
i fit 255/40/17 on 17x8 +30 with tein flex's.

+35 isn't recommended for 8 inch wide wheels up front in the first place.

there is no rule book that says "it isnt recomended" its ultimately up to the person that decides to put them on. if it fits and is adequate for what the person is using them for then the placement of them on the FC is appropriate

btw these are on stock suspension

Stock is always different than coilovers. My wheels fit fine then I got coilovers and ended up with the tire rubbing on the spring. I have the same size and offset rim as you now though Just ordered tires so I guess I'll be using a wheel spacer.

the 2nd most important issue for what tire fits is the struts you are using, some designs allow more room for wider tires/rims and that make a world of difference.

I ran 17x8 +35 with a 235 tire for over a year and while I had only a few mm's of clearance it was completely fine and I had tein flex. I also would have preferred a +30 offset but the +35 that I had cleared the fender lip very well.

I've been running with 17x8's +35 wheels in the fronts for almost a year and a half with no hitting or rubbing of any sort.
please dont post any advice if you have no real experience with the topic

+35 will work on a 17x8's on the fronts even if you have stock shocks. if you have coilovers like i do, you'll have a little bit more space. not sure how much though. I still have to measure how much space.

the recommended offset on 8's is +30, just for that extra clearance space, and to avoid being placed too far out.

Some good recommendations can be found there.

I did not say you CAN'T run them, I said it isn't recommended because there are BETTER offsets that could be used. There are plenty of people here who can back that up. Even Owen said he would have preferred a +30 offset so please don't assume I haven't done my research. Running anything WIDER than 225 on a 17x8 +35 will USUALLY be too tight (which is what this topic is about in the first place). So don't you go and make people think they can run much wider tires on a 17x8 +35 wheel. There's too many variables, including suspension and the actual design of the wheel and tire, to have a definite offset.

hahah newb.

don't spread your bad advice. go back to school and learn the differences between strut/spring setups versus coilover setups.

Check out my pics buried in the big thread...
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...page=115&pp=15

The 8.0", +35 will work with thinner tires, but if you push the offset out a little, you can get a 235 to fit.
Thus, 8.0", +30 is almost the ideal to run up front to clear both inside and outside (fender lip).
